Behörighetslagen
Behörighetslagen () was an historical law in Sweden, which formally guaranteed men and women equal right to all public professions and positions in society, with certain specified exceptions. The law was passed in 1923, and enforced in 1925. It was dropped in 1945, because it contained exceptions which started to be seen as a problem by that point. The exceptions consisted of the right to become priests of the state church (which was allowed in 1958) and to hold military office (which was allowed in a series of reforms in 1980–1989). Background The background to the law was the raising employment rate of women in the educated professions, both in public and private, which took place during the later half of the 19th-century, particularly after women gained access to university education in the 1870s. Mathilda Staël Von Holstein
Christina Mathilda Staël von Holstein (1876–1953) was a Swedish lawyer. She was the second woman to become a lawyer in Sweden, the first being Eva Andén. She was known as a feminist throughout her lifetime. Biography She was born in Kristianstad as the daughter of the nobleman and Colonel Axel Staël von Holstein and Cecilia Nordenfeldt and grew up in Värmland. She was orphaned early and left with responsibility for her eleven siblings, and never married. She was a correspondent at a law firm, then an assistant and an accountant at the Stockholm City Health Board. She became a Candidate of Law in Stockholm in 1918. She was also a member of the Fredrika Bremer Association and chairman of the Stockholm Women's Association. From 1919 to 1923 she was a partner in Eva Andén's law firm. Anna Ahlström
Anna Ahlström (19 July 1863 – 12 October 1943) was a Swedish teacher and principal who, in 1902, founded the New Elementary School for Girls - Ahlströmska school - in Stockholm. The school's director was her life partner. In 1903, she formed the ''Akademiskt Bildade Kvinnors Förening'' or ABKF ('Society of Women Academics') which influenced the government to address the issue of gender discrimination, which ultimately resulted in the Behörighetslagen, a law which formally declared almost all professions and positions in society open for both men and women. Emilia Augusta Clementina Broomé, née ''Lothigius'' (13 January 1866 – 2 June 1925), was a Swedish politician (liberal), feminist and peace activist. She was the first woman in the Swedish legislative assembly (1914). Life Emilia Broomé was born on 13 October 1866 in Jönköping. raised in Jönköping, where she studied at the local girls school. She was given her professional degree at Wallinska skolan in 1883 and graduated in philosophy and medicine in Uppsala in 1884. The age of majority is the threshold of legal adulthood as recognized or declared in law. It is the moment when minors cease to be considered such and assume legal control over their persons, actions, and decisions, thus terminating the control and legal responsibilities of their parents or guardian over them.
