Behavioral Description Language
Behavioral Description Language (BDL) is a programming language based on ANSI C with extensions for hardware description, developed to describe hardware at levels ranging from the algorithm level to the functional level. Although the term Behavioral Description Language is a generic term and can refer to multiple high-level description languages, NEC Corporation has developed a C-subset called BDL for High-Level Synthesis. This C-subset includes its own data types (called var-class), special constants for hardware design e.g. high impedance, timing descriptors and control statements. As BDL is meant for Hardware synthesis, the complete ANSI-C syntax is not supported. ANSI C
ANSI C, ISO C, and Standard C are successive standards for the C programming language published by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22/WG 14 of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Historically, the names referred specifically to the original and best-supported version of the standard (known as C89 or C90). Software developers writing in C are encouraged to conform to the standards, as doing so helps portability between compilers. History and outlook The first standard for C was published by ANSI. Sizeof
sizeof is a unary operator in the programming languages C and C++. It generates the storage size of an expression or a data type, measured in the number of ''char''-sized units. Consequently, the construct ''sizeof (char)'' is guaranteed to be ''1''. The actual number of bits of type char is specified by the preprocessor macro , defined in the standard include file limits.h. On most modern computing platforms this is eight bits. The result of ''sizeof'' has an unsigned integer type that is usually denoted by size_t. The operator has a single operand, which is either an expression or the cast of a data type, which is a data type enclosed in parentheses. Data types may not only be primitive types, such as integer and floating-point types, but also pointer types, and compound datatypes ( unions, structs, and C++ classes).
