Buronson
, known by the pen names and , is a Japanese manga writer. Making his debut in 1972, he first found success with the hardboiled detective manga series ''Doberman Deka'' (1975–1979) alongside illustrator Shinji Hiramatsu. He is best-known for creating the post-apocalyptic martial arts series ''Fist of the North Star'' (1983–1988) with artist Tetsuo Hara, which is one of the List of best-selling manga, best-selling manga in history with over 100 million copies in circulation. He has since worked with Ryoichi Ikegami on several series, including ''Heat (manga), Heat'' (1998–2004), which won the 2002 Shogakukan Manga Award for general manga. Ryoichi Ikegami
is a Japanese manga artist that usually works as the illustrator in collaboration with a writer. He is best known for ''Crying Freeman'' (1986–1988), written by Kazuo Koike, and ''Heat'' (1999–2004), written by Buronson. The latter won the 2001 Shogakukan Manga Award for general manga. Yoshihide Fujiwara is a former assistant of Ikegami's. Shogakukan
is a Japanese publisher of dictionaries, literature, comics (manga), non-fiction, DVDs, and other media in Japan. Shogakukan founded Shueisha, which also founded Hakusensha. These are three separate companies, but are together called the Hitotsubashi Group, one of the largest publishing groups in Japan. Seinen Manga
is an editorial category of Japanese comics marketed toward young adult men. In Japanese, the word ''seinen'' literally means "youth", but the term "''seinen'' manga" is also used to describe the target audience of magazines like ''Weekly Manga Times'' and ''Weekly Manga Goraku'' which cater specifically to men's interests, and are marketed towards a demographic of young adult men between the ages of 18 and 40. Big Comic Superior
is a semimonthly seinen manga magazine published since July 1, 1987 by Shogakukan in Japan. Its target audience is somewhere between the audience for ''Big Comic Original'' and ''Big Comic Spirits''. The magazine has published works by a number of well-known manga artists, including Ryoichi Ikegami, Mochiru Hoshisato, Yū Koyama, Yūji Aoki, Fumi Saimon, Norifusa Mita, George Akiyama, and Buronson. ''Superior'' was originally a special issue of ''Big Comic Original'', published twice monthly on the 1st and 15th. However, since it was selling just as well as the main three magazines (''Big Comic'', ''Big Comic Original'', and ''Big Comic Spirits''), it began to be released every other week. It is currently released twice monthly on the second and fourth Fridays. As of 2015, ''Superior'' has a reported circulation of 115,334 for each issue.
