Bedok
Bedok () is a planning area and matured residential town located in the geographical region of Tanah Merah along the south-eastern coast of the East Region of Singapore. Bedok is bounded by five other planning areas: Paya Lebar to the north, Hougang to the northwest, Tampines to the northeast and east, Geylang to the west and Marine Parade to the southwest. It also shares a maritime boundary with the Singapore Strait to the south and southeast. Population wise, Bedok is the largest planning area in the country, being home to approximately 280,000 residents. This high demographic is largely explained by the affordable public housing in Bedok New Town, due to its relatively distant location from the Central Area. Besides public housing developments, private residences are also prevalent in the area, most of which are found in the neighbourhoods of Bayshore, Frankel Avenue and Siglap, in western and southwestern Bedok. Bedok Reservoir
Bedok Reservoir ( ms, Empangan Bedok, , ta, பெடோக் நீர்த்தேக்கம்) is a reservoir in the eastern part of Singapore, to the north of Bedok. The reservoir has a surface area of 880,000 m², and a capacity of 12.8 million m³. The mean depth of the reservoir is 9 m, with a maximum depth of 18.2 m. The shoreline length is 4.3 km. History The reservoir was first announced in 1980 as part of a water supply scheme. It was converted from a sand quarry that was used by the Housing and Development Board (HDB). Construction of the reservoir began in 1983, with the construction of a deep pumping station and a perimeter road. The reservoir was completed in June 1985, and it began operations later that year. Bedok Mall
Bedok Mall is a suburban shopping mall in Bedok, Singapore and part of a mixed development compromising of retail and residential development that is integrated with a bus interchange. It was the first major shopping mall to open in Bedok and was built on the site of the former Bedok bus interchange. Bedok Bus Interchange
Bedok Bus Interchange is an air-conditioned bus interchange located in the approximate center of Bedok. It is situated along Bedok North Interchange and Bedok North Drive, on the second level of Bedok Mall. It is connected to Bedok MRT station. It is the 2nd busiest bus interchange in Singapore, with 28 bus services operating from it. History The original facility opened on 25 February 1979. It was the first interchange in Singapore to use a colour-coded queue scheme. Soon after it opened, in 1981, the interchange was partially demolished and expanded at a cost of S$3 million, and work was completed in 1983. After the expansion, the interchange covered ands had 32 end-on berths, 7 sawtooth berths and 33 remote parking bays. Gerald Giam Yean Song ( zh, s=严燕松, p=Yán Yànsōng; born 1977) is a Singaporean politician.
