Bedeni (film)
Bedeni, also known as Arup Kotha (1951–52), is an unfinished Bengali language film directed by legendary filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak. This was the first movie in which Ritwik worked as a director. Making The film was based on a short story of Tarashankar Bandopadhyay named ''Nagini''. In 1950 when the shooting started the director of this movie was Nirmal Dey. The shooting of the film was arranged in Rupashree studio, Park Circus, Kolkata. After the studio got devastated by fire in an accident, they started shooting in Indrapuri Studio. After some time, the shooting of the film had to be stopped mainly for financial problems. In 1951 Ritwik Ghatak was appointed as the director of this film. Ghatak made some changes in the storyline, rewrote screenplay and renamed the film ''Arup Kotha''. In 1952 the film unit shot for 20 days in Bolpur and Ghatshila in the bank of river Subarnarekha. Tarashankar Bandopadhyay
Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay (23 July 1898 – 14 September 1971) was an Indian novelist who wrote in the Bengali language. He wrote 65 novels, 53-story-books, 12 plays, 4 essay-books, 4 autobiographies, 2 travel stories and composed several songs. He was awarded Rabindra Puraskar, Sahitya Akademi Award, Jnanpith Award, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. He was nominited for Nobel Prize in Literature in 1971. Biography Bandyopadhyay was born at his ancestral home at Labhpur village in Birbhum district, Bengal Province, British India (now West Bengal, India) to Haridas Bandyopadhyay and Prabhabati Devi. He passed the Matriculation examination from Labhpur Jadablal H. E. School in 1916 and was later admitted first to St. Xavier's College, Calcutta and then to South Suburban College (now Asutosh College). Ritwik Ghatak
Ritwik Kumar Ghatak (; 4 November 19256 February 1976) was a noted Indian film director, screenwriter, and playwright. Along with prominent contemporary Bengali filmmakers Satyajit Ray, Tapan Sinha and Mrinal Sen, his cinema is primarily remembered for its meticulous depiction of social reality, partition and feminism. He won the National Film Award's Rajat Kamal Award for Best Story in 1974 for his ''Jukti Takko Aar Gappo'' and Best Director's Award from Bangladesh Cine Journalist's Association for ''Titash Ekti Nadir Naam''. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri for Arts in 1970. Family Ritaban Ghatak, his son, is also a filmmaker and is involved in the Ritwik Memorial Trust. Ghatshila
Ghatshila is a census town in the Ghatshila CD block in the Ghatshila subdivision of the East Singhbhum district, in the Indian state of Jharkhand. Bijon Bhattacharya ( bn, বিজন ভট্টাচার্য; 17 July 1906 – 19 January 1978) was an Indian theatre and film actor from West Bengal. He was an eminent playwright and dramatist. Bhattacharya was born in 1906 at Faridpur (now in Bangladesh) to a Hindu, Bengali Brahmin family, and was an early witness to the destitution and penury of the peasantry of that land.
