Beckenham Beacon
Beckenham Beacon is a redeveloped health centre in Beckenham, on the site of the old Beckenham Hospital, in the London Borough of Bromley, England. It is managed by King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. It opened in 2009. History The hospital was established on the site of the old Beckenham Hospital in 2009. Services The centre provides community health services, a minor injuries unit, Special Care Dental Services and out of hours emergency dental service, x-ray facilities, a pharmacy and blood testing as well as general practitioner services at the Elm House Surgery and the Cator Medical Centre. Beckenham Hospital
Beckenham Hospital was a healthcare facility based in Beckenham, Kent. History The hospital was founded by Peter Richard Hoare, the younger (1803-1877) of Kelsey Park, Kelsey Manor as the Beckenham Cottage Hospital in 1872. Additional facilities were added in 1877 (the Lea Wilson Ward), in 1899 (the Diamond Jubilee Extension) and in 1924 (the Percy Jones Ward). It became the Beckenham General Hospital in 1929 and benefited from further facilities in 1932 (the Ruth Sutton Ward) and in 1939 (the Trapnell Wing). After it joined the National Health Service in 1948, a new out-patients department was completed in 1959 and the Douglas Lindsay Ward was added in 1969. The hospital closed in 2005 and the site has been developed as a primary healthcare centre known as Beckenham Beacon which opened in 2009. King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is an NHS trust in London, England. It is closely involved with Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, with which it shares its chair, Sir Hugh Taylor, its strategy director and IT director. It is assumed that the two organisations will eventually merge. History The newly formed King's Healthcare Trust took over management of the King's College Hospital in 1993. After being awarded foundation trust status, it became the King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2006. Performance In March 2015 it had a very large backlog of patients waiting more than 18 weeks for treatment. Monitor launched an investigation into the trust because of 'long standing problems' at Princess Royal University Hospital in March 2015. Financial problems are attributed to urgent improvements to the quality of care there, including increasing the nurse-to-patient ratio by recruiting 260 new nurses. Beckenham
Beckenham () is a town in Greater London, England, within the London Borough of Bromley, in Greater London. Until 1965 it was part of the historic county of Kent. It is located south-east of Charing Cross, situated north of Elmers End and Eden Park, east of Penge, south of Lower Sydenham and Bellingham, and west of Bromley and Shortlands. Its population at the 2011 census counted 46,844 inhabitants. Beckenham was, until the coming of the railway in 1857, a small village, with most of its land being rural and private parkland. John Barwell Cator and his family began the leasing and selling of land for the building of villas which led to a rapid increase in population, between 1850 and 1900, from 2,000 to 26,000. The London Borough of Bromley () is the southeasternmost of the London boroughs that make up Greater London, bordering the ceremonial county of Kent, which most of Bromley was part of before 1965.
