Beaverdam Creek (Salt River Tributary)
Beaverdam Creek is a stream in southwest Audrain County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of the South Fork of the Salt River which it joins approximately six miles southeast of Mexico.''Missouri Atlas & Gazetteer,'' DeLorme, 1st ed., 1998, p. 31, The stream headwaters arise in southwest Audrian County at at an elevation of approximately 910 feet. The stream flows generally east to southeast and passes under US Route 54 approximately 5.5 miles south of Mexico and joins the South Fork two miles east of Route 54 and about 1.5 miles north of the southern border of Audrain County at and an elevation of 761 feet. Audrain County, Missouri
Audrain County is a county located in the central part of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,962. Its county seat is Mexico. The county was organized December 13, 1836, and named for Colonel James Hunter Audrain of the War of 1812 and who later was elected to the state legislature. History Audrain county was formed from a non-county area with portions under the administration of Montgomery, Callaway, Boone, Ralls, or Monroe counties at various times prior to its official establishment in 1836. Thus, records for locations now in Audrain prior to 1836 may indicate location in those counties instead. Beaver Dam
A beaver dam or beaver impoundment is a dam built by beavers to create a pond which protects against predators such as coyotes, wolves and bears, and holds their food during winter. These structures modify the natural environment in such a way that the overall ecosystem builds upon the change, making beavers a keystone species and ecosystem engineers. They build prolifically at night, carrying mud and stones with their forepaws and timber between their teeth.
