Beatty Secondary School
Beatty Secondary School is a co-educational government secondary school in Toa Payoh, Singapore. It was established in 1953 along Beatty Road and moved to its current site in Toa Payoh in 1982. It educates deaf students who must use sign language to communicate. History The school was originally opened on 6 July 1953 at a site along Beatty Road, with three classes. It was the fourth school established as part of the then-government's 10-year Education Plan. In 1957, the school's female student population was transferred to the then-new Cedar Girls' Secondary School. That same year, post-primary classes for students who were unable to get into secondary schools were started in the school. In 1982, the school moved to a new location in Toa Payoh North. Toa Payoh
Toa Payoh (, ta, தோ பாயோ) is a planning area and matured residential town located in the northern part of the Central Region of Singapore. Toa Payoh planning area borders Bishan and Serangoon to the north, the Central Water Catchment to the northwest, Kallang to the south, Geylang to the southeast, Novena to the west and Hougang to the east. Toa Payoh New Town is situated in the western portion of the Toa Payoh planning area. The latter occupies a much larger area, encompassing estates such as Potong Pasir and Bidadari. Shih Choon Fong
Shih Choon Fong (; born 1945) is a Singaporean college administrator and fracture mechanics expert who served as the founding president of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) between 2008 and 2013. Prior joining KAUST as its founding president, he was the president of the National University of Singapore (NUS) for nine years and has been widely acknowledged for creating the university's research-intensive focus with an entrepreneurial dimension, as well as for NUS' elevated global reputation.
