Baystone Bank Reservoir
Baystone (1952−1978) was a racing horse and the winner of the 1958 Melbourne Cup with jockeys Mel Schumacher, J. Thompson, and F. Treen and trainers Jack Green, F. Dalton and O.N. Marshall. His winning time was 3:21:25 and his odds were ten to one. He finished the race one and a half lengths in front of the next racer, Monte Carlo. Baystone was the first horse in Cup history winning with the number 7 saddlecloth. The 1958 Melbourne Cup was the first one with automatic barrier stalls. Dante (horse)
Dante (1942–1956) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse who was the last horse trained in northern England to win the English Derby. In a racing career which lasted from the spring of 1944 until June 1945 he ran nine times and won eight races. He was the top-rated British two-year-old of 1944 when he was unbeaten in six races including the Coventry Stakes and the Middle Park Stakes. In 1945 he was beaten when favourite for the 2000 Guineas but won the Derby, despite being afflicted by an eye condition which eventually left him completely blind. He was retired to a successful stud career before dying in 1956. Background Dante was a brown horse with a small white star and one white foot, bred and owned by Sir Eric Ohlson at Manor House Stud in Middleham in North Yorkshire. Manitoba (horse)
Manitoba (1930-1951) was a British bred Thoroughbred racehorse that was a race winner in England before he was exported to Australia where he was a leading sire. Breeding He was bred and raced in England by Lord Woolavington, a Canadian-born owner of a highly successful London distillery who named the horse for the Canadian Province of Manitoba. Involved with racing for more than two decades, Lord Woolavington's horses twice won The Derby and St. Leger Stakes. Manitoba was sired by Manna, winner of the 1925 2,000 Guineas Stakes and Epsom Derby and sire of Miracle (£14,607) and Colombo (£26,228). Manna was by the Leading sire in Great Britain and Ireland, Phalaris. A gelding is a castrated male horse or other equine, such as a pony, donkey or a mule. Bay is a hair coat color of horses, characterized by a reddish-brown or brown body color with a black point coloration on the mane, tail, ear edges, and lower legs. Bay is one of the most common coat colors in many horse breeds. The black areas of a bay horse's hair coat are called "black points", and without them, a horse is not a bay horse. The Melbourne Cup is a Thoroughbred horse race held in Melbourne, Australia.
