Adelaide Steele Baylor
Adelaide Steele Baylor (October 14, 1860 – December 18, 1935) was an American educator and school administrator. She was chief of the Home Economics Education Service in the United States Office of Education from 1923 to 1935. Early life and education Baylor was born in Wabash, Indiana, the daughter of James Craig Baylor and Susannah Steele Baylor. She graduated from Wabash High School, attended the University of Michigan, earned bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago in 1897, and a master's degree from Columbia University in 1917. She received an honorary doctorate from the Stout Institute in Wisconsin in 1928. Career Baylor was a teacher and school principal as a young woman. Don Baylor
Don Edward Baylor (June 28, 1949 – August 7, 2017) was an American professional baseball player and manager. During his 19 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), Baylor was a power hitter known for standing very close to home plate (" crowding the plate") and was a first baseman, left fielder, and designated hitter. He played for six different American League (AL) teams, primarily the Baltimore Orioles and California Angels, but he also played for the Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, and Boston Red Sox. In 1979, Baylor was an All-Star and won the AL Most Valuable Player Award. He won three Silver Slugger Awards, the Roberto Clemente Award, and was a member of the 1987 World Series champion Minnesota Twins. He played 14 seasons as a forward in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers. Frances Courtenay Baylor Barnum (January 20, 1848, – October 15, 1920) was an American writer of fiction. Biography Frances Courtenay Baylor was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on January 20, 1848. Her father, James Dawson, was an army officer, and her childhood was spent in San Antonio and New Orleans, where her father was stationed. During her teen years her parents divorced and Frances began using her mother's maiden name, Baylor. After the Civil War ended, she spent several years (1865–67, 1873–74) traveling and living in Europe. George Baylor
George Baylor (January 17, 1752 – November 9, 1784) was an officer in the Continental Army, serving throughout the American Revolutionary War. Military career Baylor was first aide-de-camp to George Washington, and brought the news of the Battle of Trenton to the Continental Congress. He was later appointed to lead the 3rd Regiment of Continental Light Dragoons, which often acted as the escort for Martha Washington. While commanding his Dragoons in September 1778, his forces were attacked on the night of the 28th as they slept in local homes and barns on Overkill Road in what is now River Vale, New Jersey. The attack came to be known as the Baylor Massacre. Hilda Gracia Baylor AM (born 8 October 1929 in Brisbane) is an Australian retired politician. Baylor was one of the first two women elected to the Victorian Legislative Council in 1979, the other being Joan Coxsedge. Gracia was born in Brisbane, her father was in the military and the family eventually settled in Victoria. She studied fine art and teaching, and taught in secondary schools until she married. Following her first marriage she worked as a law clerk and managed one of her husband's three law practices (Richard Baylor). (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s.
