Bay Ridge High School was a school based in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Initially the school was co educational, but when New Utrecht High School was formed it became an all girls high school. It served as the sister school to Brooklyn Technical High School. It was closed in 1985. It later became High School of Telecommunication Arts and Technology. Bay Ridge is a neighborhood in the southwest corner of the New York City borough (New York City), borough of Brooklyn. It is bounded by Sunset Park, Brooklyn, Sunset Park to the north, Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, Dyker Heights to the east, the Narrows and the Belt Parkway to the west, and Fort Hamilton, Fort Hamilton Army Base and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to the south. The section of Bay Ridge south of 86th Street is sometimes considered part of a sub-neighborhood called Fort Hamilton. Bay Ridge was formerly the westernmost portion of the town of New Utrecht, Brooklyn, New Utrecht, comprising two smaller villages: Yellow Hook to the north and Fort Hamilton to the south. New Utrecht High School is a public high school located in Bensonhurst, a neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The school is operated by the New York City Department of Education under District 20, and serves students of grades 9 to 12. It is one of the largest high schools in New York City in terms of enrollment. History New Utrecht High School was established in 1915 as an offshoot of the nearby coeducational Bay Ridge High School. This resulted in New Utrecht High School becoming an all-boys school, while Bay Ridge High School became an all-girls school. Fritzie Abadi
Fritzie Abadi (1915 – 2001) was an American painter, sculptor, and collage artist. Born in Aleppo, which was then part of the Ottoman Empire. Biography The daughter of a rabbi, Abadi lived in Palestine until she was nine years old. She then emigrated to New York City in 1924. She won a drawing competition while attending Bay Ridge High School, and this fostered an early interest in art. She married at eighteen and moved to Oklahoma City, giving birth to two daughters and "forgot about art". In 1945 she returned to Brooklyn, and in 1946 she enrolled in the Art Students League of New York; there she studied under Nahum Tschacbasov. Her work is included in several museum collections such as the Butler Institute of American Art, the Evansville Museum of Arts and Science, the Slater Memorial Museum, and the Georgia Museum of Art.
