Baudin Beach, South Australia
Baudin Beach is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on Dudley Peninsula on the north coast of Kangaroo Island about south of the capital city of Adelaide and about west of Penneshaw. It is named in 2002 after the French navigator Nicolas Baudin in honor of his exploration of Kangaroo Island in 1802. Prior to 2002, Baudin Beach was known as ''American Beach'', being the name given to the land subdivision of the area in 1966. The name was changed in 2002 to avoid confusion with the originally named American Beach which is located a short distance north of the subdivision. The area was once known as Deep Creek Farm, owned by Bruce Bates of Penneshaw. Bates sold the land to Clem Bessell in 1966, who in conjunction with real estate agent Cliff Hawkins subdivided the area which is still often referred to as "Bessell's". Kangaroo Island Council
The Kangaroo Island Council is a local government area in South Australia that covers the entirety of Kangaroo Island, 13 km off the coast of the mainland. The council was formed on the 28 November 1996 by the amalgamation of the District Council of Kingscote and the District Council of Dudley. Its first meeting held on 11 December 1996. Mawson is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It covers the entirety of Kangaroo Island, and parts of the local government areas of Alexandrina Council, the City of Onkaparinga, and the District Council of Yankalilla. King George Whiting
The King George whiting (''Sillaginodes punctatus''), also known as the spotted whiting or spotted sillago, is a coastal marine fish of the smelt-whitings family Sillaginidae. The King George whiting is endemic to Australia, inhabiting the south coast of the country from Jurien Bay, Western Australia to Botany Bay, New South Wales in the east. The King George whiting is the only member of the genus ''Sillaginodes'' and the largest member of the smelt-whiting family Sillaginidae, growing to a length of 80 cm and 4.8 kg in weight. The species is readily distinguishable from other Australian whitings by its unique pattern of spots, as well as its highly elongate shape. Cliff Hawkins
Cliff Hawkins (10 March 1932 - 15 July 2016) was a real estate agent based in Adelaide, South Australia. Commencing work at the Lands Titles Office as a draftsman, at the age of 17 Hawkins became the youngest person in the state to qualify as a licensed land broker (now licensed conveyancer). Hawkins subsequently joined the established real estate firm of KJ Powell as a land broker. Hawkins established his real estate business in Adelaide in 1958. Aside from activity in Adelaide, his business established a presence on Kangaroo Island, South Australia from 1963 and is the longest established real estate business on the island. In 1966 he became the youngest ever councillor in the Real Estate Institute of South Australia, and in 1981 its youngest ever life member. Nicolas Thomas Baudin (; 17 February 1754 – 16 September 1803) was a French explorer, cartographer, naturalist and hydrographer, most notable for his explorations in Australia and the southern Pacific.
