Batty Weber Prize
The Batty Weber Prize or ''Prix Batty Weber'' is Luxembourg's national literary prize. It has been awarded every three years since 1987 to a Luxembourg writer for his entire literary work. It is named after the writer Batty Weber (1860–1940) who considerably influenced Luxembourg's cultural life. Batty Weber
Batty (Jean-Baptiste) Weber (1860–1940) is considered to have been one of Luxembourg's most influential journalists and authors, contributing much to the development of the country's national identity. His style is characterized by his sense of humour and skillful use of irony. Early life Born on 25 November 1860 in Rumelange in south-western Luxembourg, he was the son of the local schoolmaster, Michel Weber, and his wife Marie-Catherine Klein. The family soon moved to Stadtbredimus on the Moselle (river), Moselle where Weber spent much of his childhood. After attending the Athénée de Luxembourg, Athénée in Luxembourg (city), Luxembourg City, he studied philology at the universities of Berlin and Bonn, developing an interest in the theatre. Léopold Hoffmann (writer)
Leopold Hofmann (also Ludwig Hoffman, Leopold Hoffman, Leopold Hoffmann; 14 August 1738 – 17 March 1793) was an Austrian composer of classical music. Biography Hofmann was the son of a highly educated civil servant, and at the age of seven became a chorister in the chapel of the Empress Elisabeth Christine, where his choral director and teacher was very likely František Tůma. He was also a student later on of Georg Christoph Wagenseil and Giuseppe Trani (violin). His studies included at various points violin, harpsichord and composition. In 1758 Hofmann secured what may have been his first appointment, as "musicus" at St. Michael's. He is known to have become choral director at St. Peter's Church in 1764 and, in 1766, kapellmeister. Anise Koltz
Anise Koltz (born 1928) is one of Luxembourg's major contemporary authors. Best known for her poetry and her translations of poetry, she has also written a number of children's stories. In 1962, she was a cofounder with Nic Weber of the successful literary conference series ''Journées littéraires de Mondorf'' (now ''Académie Européenne de Poésie'') in which she has always played a key role."Koltz, Anise (geb. Guy Rewenig
Guy Rewenig (born 31 August 1947) is a Luxembourg author and novelist. In 1984, he wrote the first novel in the Luxembourgish language although poems and theatrical works had appeared in the 19th century. Together with Roger Manderscheid, he is credited for initiating the current trend for novels written in Luxemburgish. Biography Born on 31 August 1947 in Luxembourg City, Rewenig completed his secondary school education at the Athénée de Luxembourg before being trained as a schoolteacher at the ''Institut pédagogique''. He has written novels, stories, plays, journalistic articles and poetry, and has been widely translated. Numerous books have been translated including in English ''Point/Erasing'', translated by Anne Marie Glasheen (Daedalus, 2003) and ''In Reality,'' translated by Zoë Skoulding (Seren Press, 2013). Lambert Schlechter (born 1941) is a Luxembourg author who has published some 40 books written in French, most of them published in France and two written in German published in Luxembourg. His work includes poetry, novels, short stories and essays. A great number of contributions to newspapers, magazines and anthologies in different countries. Since 2006 he is working on a greater prose project under the general title "Le Murmure du monde": a collection of literary, philosophical and autobiographical fragments; so far nine volumes have been published (see below: Works), X, XI and XII are in preparation.
