Battle Of Tordesillas (1520)
The Battle of Tordesillas was an armed conflict fought during the Revolt of the Comuneros, that engaged the royalist forces commanded by the Count of Haro and the comuneros garrison of the Valladolid town of Tordesillas —headquarters of the rebels—, on December 5, 1520. At the end of November the army of the Santa Junta, led by Pedro Girón y Velasco, had advanced towards Medina de Rioseco, establishing its headquarters in the town of Villabrágima, only a league away from the royal army. This one, composed fundamentally of contingents provided and commanded by the nobility, was limited to occupy towns to avoid the advance and to cut the lines of communication. The situation was maintained until December 2, when the rebel army left Villabrágima for Villalpando. With this movement the route to Tordesillas —headquarters of the Junta and residence of Queen Joanna the Mad— was left unprotected, so the royal army took advantage of the occasion and on December 4 headed out. ... Tordesillas
Tordesillas () is a town and municipality in the province of Valladolid, Castile and León, central Spain. It is located southwest of the provincial capital, Valladolid at an elevation of . The population was c. 9,000 . The town is located on the Douro River although the river is not navigable up to Tordesillas. There are highway connections to Madrid, to the southeast, and with Salamanca, to the southwest. The provincial capital of Valladolid is also linked by four-lane highway. Because of its important highway connections Tordesillas has become a major transit hub. The economy is based on services—especially connected to tourism—and the agricultural production of the surrounding area. Urueña
Urueña is a municipality located in the province of Valladolid, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2004 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 213 inhabitants. The streets and stone houses have been restored to those of a medieval town. It still retains much of the city walls with two gates and the castle. The parish church, Santa María del Azogue , was built in gothic-renaissance styles. It also has four museums. Juan Téllez-Girón was the third natural son of Pedro Girón, 1st Lord of Osuna and of Inés de las Casas. The children were legitimated by Papal bull on March 1466, confirmed by King Henry IV of Castile. He succeeded to the titles of his older brother in 1469. He married Leonor de la Vega Velasco, daughter of Pedro Fernández de Velasco, 2nd Count of Haro, with whom he had 15 children.
