Battle Of Amritsar (1634)
The Battle of Amritsar was a campaign by Mukhlis Khan against Guru Hargobind and the Sikhs on 14 April 1634. The battle took place over two days and was a result of increasing tensions between the Mughal government and Guru Hargobind. Background After persecution from the Mughal government the Sikhs began organizing regular training exercises and became a rallying point for people disaffected by the Mughals. Increasing tensions erupted during a clash between a group of Sikh and Mughal hunting parties. On Vaisaki day, a hunting party of Sikhs set their hawk upon a royal hawk and brought it down. When the Mughal hunting party came to retrieve their hawk they used abusive language and the Sikhs then refused to part with it. This altercation led to blows and the Mughals were forced to leave after their party suffered losses. The Battle of Amritsar was fought on 6 and 12 April 1709 between the Sikh forces led by Bhai Mani Singh and the Mughal forces sent by Aslam Khan, the governor of Lahore. This battle was the first one fought after Guru Gobind Singh's death, even before Banda Singh Bahadur's skirmishes against the Mughals. This battle can also be referred to as The Unsung Battle of Amritsar. Background On 29 March 1709 during Vaisakhi, the Sikhs held a gathering at Amritsar. Chuhar Mall Ohri, a Khatri had a son named Ramu Mall. A dispute between the Sikhs and Ramu Mall arose, on the issue of some mulberry trees. Battle Of Amritsar (1738)
The Battle of Amritsar was fought in 1738 by the Sikh forces led by Nawab Kapur Singh and the Mughal forces led by Qazi Abdul Rehman. Background In 1737, Zakariya Khan took Amritsar, the holy city of the Sikhs and blocked them from visiting the Golden Temple. An army of 2,000 Mughals always guarded the gurudwara. Qazi Abdul Razzaq was chosen to be the controller of Amritsar. The Sikhs would disguise themselves during midnight and would take a dip in the holy water, not afraid of death. When they were seen, they would often be taken prisoner or slain. One time the Qazi announced that the Sikhs could not face them. The Siege of Amritsar was a siege that took place on March 1748.The Battle was fought between the Sikhs led by Nawab Kapur Singh against the Mughal Forces lead by Salabat Khan.The Sikhs successfully defeated and killed Salabat Khan and conquered the city of Amritsar from the Mughals. Battle Of Amritsar (1757)
The Battle of Amritsar, also known as the Battle of Gohalwar, was fought between Durrani Empire and Shaheedan Misl of Dal Khalsa on 11 November 1757. The Battle Ahmad Shah Durrani had finished raiding Hindustan and was returning to Afghanistan after sacking Delhi in January 1757, but on the way his army was attacked by Baba Deep Singh. He managed to escape along with his remaining army and in retaliation for the attack, he attacked Amritsar and desecrated the Golden Temple, the holiest site of the Sikhs, by having waste poured into the pool along with entrails of slaughtered cows in order to hurt the religious sentiment of the Sikhs. Upon his return to Kabul, Abdali sent his son Timur Shah Durrani to chastise the Sikhs. The Battle of Pipli Sahib also known as Battle of Amritsar was a battle fought by the Sikh Misls and the Durrani Empire. This battle is also referred to as Badla Singhan Da (Revenge of the Sikhs) and was fought after the great Sikh holocaust ( Vadda Ghalughara). Background After the Battle of Kup, the Sikhs decided to get revenge for the dead and avenge their defeats. Ahmad Shah Abdali had returned to Lahore. The Battle of Darbar Sahib was fought in 1764, during the Afghan-Sikh Wars, between the Shaheedan Misl of the Sikhs and the Durrani Empire of Ahmad Shah Abdali aided by the Khanate of Kalat. Battle During the year 1764, the Sikh Misls greatly expanded their territory over the region of Punjab, and other North Indian subcontinent regions. This greatly weakened Durrani rule over Punjab which forced Ahmad Shah Abdali to launch a 7th invasion into India. Battle Of Amritsar (1767)
The Battle of Amritsar took place on 17 January 1767 between the Durranis and the Sikh Misls during Ahmad Shah Abdali's eighth campaign into India. Durrani commander Jahan Khan marched to the neighborhood of Chak where he was met by the Sikhs who became aware of Khan's movements. A battle ensued, resulting in the defeat of Afghans with between 5,000 to 6,000 casualties. Background Ahmad Shah Abdali marched his eighth campaign into India and reached Lahore on 22 December 1766. The Battle of Amritsar took place on 12 January 1797 between the Durranis and the Sikh Misls as part of the Afghan-Sikh wars which ended with Sikh victory and retreat of Zaman Shah Durrani. Background On 11 January 1797, Amritsar was raided by a group of light cavalry of Durrani Empire, but they were defeated by the body of Sikhs in hand-to-hand combat with swords and spears. The Durrani soldiers fled and the Sikhs pursued them to a faraway distance. Upon the news of defeat of his army, Zaman Shah Durrani felt deeply insulted and marched towards Amritsar with the biggest share of his army.
