Batman University ( Turkish: ''Batman Üniversitesi'') is one of the 17 new universities established with "Law on Amendments to the Statements Attached to the Law on the Organization of Institutes of Higher Education, to the Statutory Decree on Academic Faculty Members of Institutes of Higher Education, and to the Statutory Decree on General Faculty and Procedure" number 5662 and approved by then President Ahmet Necdet Sezer on May 28, 2007. It is located in Batman, Turkey. In January 2017, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan appointed Aydın Durmuş rector of the university. Durmuş was replaced by İdris Demir in February 2021. Batman, Turkey
Batman ( ku, Êlih) is a Kurdish-majority city in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey and the capital of Batman Province. It lies on a plateau, above sea level, near the confluence of the Batman River and the Tigris. The Batı Raman oil field, which is the largest oil field in Turkey, is located just outside the city. Batman has a local airport and a military airbase, which was used for transit of aircraft and helicopters in some search and rescue operations during the Gulf War. Until the 1950s, Batman was a village, with a population of about 3,000. However, oil fields were discovered around it in the 1940s that resulted in a rapid development of the area and in the inflow of workforce from other parts of Turkey. Ahmet Necdet Sezer
Ahmet Necdet Sezer (; born 13 September 1941) is a Turkish statesman and judge who served as the tenth president of Turkey from 2000 to 2007. Previously he was president of the Constitutional Court of Turkey from 1998 to 2002. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey elected Sezer as president in 2000 after Süleyman Demirel's seven-year term expired. He was succeeded by Abdullah Gül in 2007. Following his legal career, Sezer became a candidate for the presidency with the joint support of many political parties in Parliament. Following the 2000 presidential election, he took an ardent secularist approach on issues such as the headscarf, holding the view that secularism in Turkey was under threat.
