Basses Loaded
''Basses Loaded'' is the 21st album by American rock band Melvins, released on June 3, 2016, through Ipecac Recordings. It features every member that has been a part of the Melvins over the previous decade, centered around the many bass guitar players to have passed through the band. Steven Shane McDonald of Redd Kross makes his debut with the Melvins, while Nirvana co-founder Krist Novoselic makes a guest appearance. Nine songs from the album were previously released through Amphetamine Reptile Records on two limited edition EPs (''Beer Hippy'' and ''War Pussy'') and in a split-release with Le Butcherettes (''Chaos as Usual''). A version of the song "Choco Plumbing" appeared on the Cartoon Network program Uncle Grandpa in the episode "Uncle Melvins". Melvins
Melvins (sometimes The Melvins) are an American rock band formed in 1983 in Montesano, Washington. Their early work was key to the development of both grunge and sludge metal. Initially, they performed as a trio but later also sometimes appeared as a quartet, with either two drummers or two bassists. Since 1984, vocalist and guitarist Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover have been constant members. The band was named after a supervisor at a Thriftway in Montesano, where Osborne also worked as a clerk; "Melvin" was disliked by other employees, and the band's members felt it to be an appropriately ridiculous name. Amphetamine Reptile Records
Amphetamine Reptile Records (or AmRep Industries) is a record label founded in 1986 by Tom Hazelmyer in Washington state. The label specializes in noise rock and also released '' Strap It On'', the debut album by alternative metal band Helmet which sold more than 40,000 records. According to Hazelmyer, the success of the album was vital to keeping AmRep going throughout the 1990s, as it "helped support the other things that sold less." The label was the subject of the 2014 documentary ''The Color of Noise''. History Hazelmyer originally started the label to release records by his band, Halo of Flies. Jack Norworth
John Godfrey Knauff (January 5, 1879 – September 1, 1959), known professionally as Jack Norworth, was an American songwriter, singer and vaudeville performer. Biography Norworth is credited as writer of a number of Tin Pan Alley hits. He wrote the lyrics to "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" in 1908, his longest-lasting hit. It wasn't until 1940 that he witnessed a major league baseball game. The song placed at number 8 on the "Songs of the Century" list selected by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Recording Industry Association of America. His "Shine On, Harvest Moon" was a bigger hit at the time. There is some disagreement about his involvement in its creation. "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" is a 1908 Tin Pan Alley song by Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer which has become the unofficial anthem of North American baseball, although neither of its authors had attended a game prior to writing the song. The song's chorus is traditionally sung as part of the seventh-inning stretch of a baseball game. Fans are generally encouraged to sing along, and at some ballparks, the words "home team" are replaced with the team name. Mike Dillard
Mike Dillard (born 1965) is an American drummer and one of the founding members of rock band Melvins. His only known recordings with the original lineup eventually saw release in 2005 as ''Mangled Demos from 1983''. He left the band in 1984 and was replaced by Dale Crover. In 1986 he briefly played in Kurt Cobain's first band, Fecal Matter (band), Fecal Matter, before they disbanded. Dillard returned to play songs from ''Mangled Demos'' live with Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover (on bass) under the name "Melvins 1983" starting in 2008. They collectively played a few shows, including two shows to celebrate Jello Biafra's 50th birthday and an appearance at the All Tomorrow's Parties (music festival), ATP "Nightmare Before Christmas" festival later that year. Benny Bell (born Benjamin Samberg, March 21, 1906 – July 6, 1999) was an American singer-songwriter who reached popularity in the 1940s, with a comeback in the 1970s. "Shaving Cream" is a song written by Benny Bell in 1946, and originally sung by Paul Wynn. It is a novelty song in which each verse ends with a mind rhyme of ''shit'', the initial ''sh-'' segueing into the refrain, "Shaving Cream"; for example: :"I have a sad story to tell you :It may hurt your feelings a bit :Last night when I walked into my bathroom :I stepped in a big pile of ...shhhhh . . . aving cream."
