Leif Hveem known as Basse Hveem (1920-1964) was an international speedway rider from Norway. Speedway career Hveem won the gold medal at the European Longtrack Champion in the 1957 Individual Long Track European Championship. In 1953, he won the second Continental Speedway Final The Continental Final was a Motorcycle speedway Final sanctioned by the FIM as the qualifying round for the Speedway World Championship between 1976 and 2000. From 1952-1975 it acted as the final qualifier for the Championship Round or European Fin .... He was champion of Norway seven times in 1940, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951, 1952 and 1953. He was also the Norwegian Longtrack Champion in 1947, 1948, 1949, 1951, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957 and the Scandinavian Longtrack Champion in 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1956, 1957. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. West Ham Hammers
The West Ham Hammers were a speedway team, first promoted by Jimmy Baxter in 1929. History They operated from the West Ham Stadium until the outbreak of World War II under several different promotions, most successfully under the control of Johnnie Hoskins. The track opened in 1928 and staged a few meetings during the early war years. Meetings were staged in 1945 but the Hammers re-opened in 1946 and ran until 1955. However dwindling crowds saw the promotion close. It did not re-open until 1964. The West Ham team were the inaugural winners of the British League in 1965, under a promotion fronted by former rider Tommy Price. Dave Lanning became promoter in 1966, and West Ham ran for a further six seasons until 1971 when they were informed that the stadium was being sold by the Greyhound Racing Association to make way for building development. Continental Speedway Final
The Continental Final was a Motorcycle speedway Final sanctioned by the FIM as the qualifying round for the Speedway World Championship between 1976 and 2000. From 1952-1975 it acted as the final qualifier for the Championship Round or European Final but from 1976-1990 it was upgraded in stature and acted as a final qualifier for the World Championship Final itself. The 1952 Individual Speedway World Championship was the seventh edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. Australian rider Jack Young became the first rider to win a second title (and the first to win two in a row) when he won his second straight World Championship after scoring 14 points. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . There are now both domestic and international competitions in a number of countries, including the Speedway World Cup, whilst the highest overall scoring individual in the Speedway Grand Prix events is pronounced the world champion.
