The Basketball Tournament at the 1995 Pan American Games was held in Mar del Plata, Argentina from March 19 to March 25, 1995. The women's tournament was cancelled because as of March 3, 1995, only four women's teams had signed up to play. All the games were held in Polideportivo Islas Malvinas, which was built for this edition of the Pan American Games. Argentina won their first Pan American Games after beating United States in the final. The Polideportivo Islas Malvinas is an indoor arena located in Mar del Plata, Argentina which was built for the XII Pan American Games in 1995. It is qualified to host such sports as basketball, handball, volleyball and tennis, as well as to accommodate any type of show, convention and exhibition. In the city, it is mostly known for being the stage where Peñarol de Mar del Plata play their home games first division basketball and local levels. Guillermo Vecchio
Guillermo Edgardo Vecchio (born March 9, 1961 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an Argentine professional basketball head coach. Club coaching career Vecchio began his coaching career in Lanus, and then moved to the Argentine League club Obras Sanitarias, where he won the William Jones World Cup in 1983. He moved to the Puerto Rican League, for 3 years with Coamo. Then he came back to Argentina, where he won 2 TNA cups with Estudiantes Concordia and Regatas SN. He also coached teams in Venezuela, Mexico, Chile, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Bahrain. In the 2011-12 season, he moved to back Lebanon to coach Mouttahed Tripoli, in the strong Division 1 of the Lebanese Basketball League after having previously coached Club Sagesse there.
