Basem Darwisch
Basem Darwisch (Arabic: باسم درويش) (born April 1966) is an Egyptian–German composer, producer and oud virtuoso. He is the founder of Cairo Steps Ensemble, He is the first musician in the Middle East to be awarded the German golden jazz award in 2018 and 2021. Education Darwisch studied German linguistics at Ain Shams University and classical music at the Arabic music academy in Cairo. He won prizes for Best Oud Player in 1985 and 1986. By the end of 1986 he had moved to Austria and then Germany, where he studied Egyptology and ethnology at Heidelberg University. Career Darwisch started his professional carrier in 1986 at the Theatre of AlTali'aa in Cairo with the Egyptian composer Waguih Aziz, In 1994 he joined the folklore group Salamat in Germany with Sudanese and Egyptian musicians. Basem Abdullah Eltahhan (born 17 August 1982 in Alexandria, Egypt) is an Egyptian former professional snooker player. Eltahhan turned professional in 2017 winning the African Championship. Career In 2017, Eltahhan beat fellow countryman Wael Talaat 6–5 in the final of the African Championship. The win gained him a two-year card on the World Snooker Tour for the 2017–18 and 2018–19 seasons. Due to lack of sponsorship Eltahhan couldn't make his professional debut until the 2017 English Open. His only match win during the season came at the single-frame Shoot-Out event, although he impressed at the 2017 UK Championship, battling world number 1 Mark Selby before ultimately losing 4–6; Selby praised his opponent afterwards, saying that Eltahhan played like a top-32 player. Basem Khandakji ( ar, باسم خندقجي, Bāsim khndqjy; born 1983) is a Palestinian writer, journalist, and prisoner, was born in 1983. He studied at An-Najah National University in the Department of Journalism and Information. He was arrested by the Israeli defence forces on November 2, 2004, and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
