Basem Darwisch
Basem Darwisch (Arabic: باسم درويش) (born April 1966) is an Egyptian–German composer, Record producer, producer and oud virtuoso. He is the founder of Cairo Steps Ensemble, He is the first musician in the Middle East to be awarded the German Jazz Award, German golden jazz award in 2018 and 2021. Education Darwisch studied German linguistics at Ain Shams University and classical music at the Arabic music academy in Cairo. He won prizes for Best Oud Player in 1985 and 1986. By the end of 1986 he had moved to Austria and then Germany, where he studied Egyptology and ethnology at Heidelberg University. Career Darwisch started his professional carrier in 1986 at the Theatre of AlTali'aa in Cairo with the Egyptian composer Wagih Aziz, Waguih Aziz, In 1994 he joined the folklore group Salamat in Germany with Sudanese and Egyptian musicians. Cairo Steps
Cairo Steps is an Egyptian jazz Musical ensemble, ensemble founded in 2002 by Egyptian-German musician and producer Basem Darwisch. The ensemble was awarded the German Jazz Award, German Golden Jazz Award in 2018. History Cairo Steps was founded in 2002 by Egyptian-German musician and producer Basem Darwisch. Cairo Steps merges and combines traditional Egyptian and oriental grooves with modern jazz improvisation, classical music and contemporary sounds. Fathy Salama
Fathy Salama (Arabic فتحي سلامة; born 27 March 1969, in Cairo) is a Grammy Award-winning Egyptian musician, who usually appears with his ensemble Sharkiat (شرقيات, "Easterners"). Salama grew up listening to the radio, which played artists who placed a deep influence upon him. His childhood influences were musicians Umm Kulthum, Mohammed Abdel Wahab and Farid El Atrache. These artists influenced him so much that he decided to get involved with music; he then started to create his own versatile style of music, from playing the piano from the age of six and followed by gigging in Cairo clubs from the age of thirteen. Soon the child of Shobra, the 'Compton of Cairo', made visits to Europe and to New York City to learn jazz with such artists as Barry Harris, Sun Ra, Roman Bunka, Hal Galper, and Pat Patrick.
