Basel Evangelical Mission Higher Secondary School (BEM HSS, PALAKKAD) is an aided school in Palakkad city, Kerala, India. The school was established as an English School in May 1858, incorporated in 1859 by Rev. J. Strobel, a Missionary of Basel Evangelical Mission. Palakkad (), formerly known as Palghat, historically known as Palakkattussery is a city and municipality in the Indian state of Kerala. It is the administrative headquarters of the Palakkad District. The Basel Mission was a Christian missionary society based in Switzerland. It was active from 1815 to 2001, when it transferred the operative work to , the successor organization of ''Kooperation Evangelischer Kirchen und Missione'' (KEM), founded in 2001. Olappamanna Mana Subramanian Namboothirippad (January 10, 1923 – April 10, 2000), better identified by his family name, Olappamanna , was an Indian poet of Malayalam literature. Shyamaprasad (born 7 November 1960) is an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter and actor from Kerala. Career Shyamaprasad was born on 7 November 1960 at Palakkad, as the younger son of O. Rajagopal and Santhakumari. He was named after Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of Bharatiya Jan Sangh. He did his schooling at Basel Evangelical Mission Higher Secondary School, Palakkad.
