Bartley Secondary School
Bartley Secondary School is a co-educational government secondary school in Singapore. It was founded in 1952, and is named after William Bartley (1885–1961), who was acting collector-general of income tax in the 1920s and president of the Municipal Commission of Singapore between 1931 and 1946. History Founding The school was founded on 18 February 1952 with Chua Leong Hean serving as the first principal and an enrolment of 81 male and 10 female students. Singapore Men's National Water Polo Team
The Singapore men's national water polo team is the representative for Singapore in international men's water polo. Singapore won the gold medal in the 1954 Asian Games, beating favourite Japan, 4–2 in the finals. In the 1986 Asian Games, Singapore won the bronze medal on better goal difference comparing to the 4th placed team Iran. At the Southeast Asian Games, Singapore has traditionally been the dominant team as they won 27 consecutive gold medals. The streak finally ended at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games when they ceded the title to Indonesia. 2019 head coach was Dejan Milakovic whereas team captain was Koh Jian Ying. 2023, Singapore regain the top spot at the games winning the gold medal again. Aljunied
Aljunied is a sub-urban area located in the central part of the city-state of Singapore. Named after Aljunied Road, it was formerly agricultural land which has since been heavily urbanised and presently comprises a variety of land uses. Athletics At The 1956 Summer Olympics – Women's 100 Metres
The women's 100 metres competition at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia was held at the Olympic Stadium on November 29–30. In the final, Betty Cuthbert clearly beat her teammate Marlene Mathews-Willard out of the blocks, with Heather Armitage and Isabelle Daniels out quickly in close contention. Christa Stubnick had a burst of acceleration to quickly draw even with Daniels as Armitage was unable to hold her speed. Cuthbert expanded upon her slight advantage to pull away to a clear win. Stubnick was able to separate slightly from Daniels with Mathews-Willard steadily gaining from the back. Mathews-Willard caught Daniels and almost nipped Stubnick, clearly the fastest moving athlete at the finish. Competition format The women's 100 metres competition started with six heats, where the fastest two from each heat qualified to one of the two semifinals groups. Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal.
