Barry West
Barry West (24 October 1958 – 15 December 2022) was an English professional snooker player. Biography West was born on 24 October 1958, and became a professional snooker player in 1985. He reached the last 32 of a ranking tournament on fifteen occasions, the last 16 five times, and progressed to three quarter-finals. In the 1985 UK Championship, West lost 9–1 in the quarter-final to Steve Davis; the 1988 International Open finished in a 5–2 loss to Jimmy White, and the UK Championship of that year ended for West with a 9–5 defeat to Terry Griffiths. He also reached the semi-final of the 1988 English Professional Championship, losing 9–6 to Neal Foulds. In the early 1990s, West fell to 66th in the world rankings at the end of the 1992–93 season; he finished the 1996/1997 season ranked 179th, and was relegated from the tour aged 38. 1985 UK Championship (snooker)
The 1985 UK Championship (also known as the 1985 Coral UK Championship for sponsorship reasons) was a professional ranking snooker tournament that took place between 15 November and 1 December 1985 at the Guild Hall in Preston, England. The last-16 televised stages were shown on the BBC from 23 November through to the end of the championship. The event was sponsored by sports betting company Coral. Steve Davis won his fourth UK Championship title by defeating Willie Thorne 16–14 in the final. Thorne had led 12–6 and 13–8, but the match turned after Thorne missed a straight blue which would have given him a 14–8 lead. Steve Davis
Steve Davis (born 22 August 1957) is an English retired professional snooker player who is currently a Sports commentator, commentator, musician, DJ, and author. He is best known for dominating professional snooker during the 1980s, when he reached eight World Snooker Championship finals in nine years, won six world titles, and held the List of world number one snooker players, world number one ranking for seven consecutive seasons. Jimmy White
James Warren White (born 2 May 1962) is an English professional snooker player who has won three seniors World titles. Nicknamed "The Whirlwind" because of his fluid, attacking style of play, White is the 1980 World Amateur Champion, 2009 Six-red World champion, 3 time World Seniors Champion ( 2010, 2019, 2020), 2019 Seniors 6-Red World Champion and 1984 World Doubles champion with Alex Higgins. White has won two of snooker's three majors: the UK Championship (in 1992) and the Masters (in 1984) and a total of ten ranking events. Terry Griffiths
Terence Martin Griffiths (born 16 October 1947) is a Welsh retired professional snooker player and current snooker coach and pundit. In his second professional tournament, he became world champion when he won the 1979 World Snooker Championship. He was the second qualifier to win the title after Alex Higgins achieved the feat in 1972; only Shaun Murphy has done it since, winning the title in 2005. Griffiths defeated Dennis Taylor by 24 to 16 in the final. Nine years later, in 1988, Griffiths reached the final of the competition again. He was tied with Steve Davis at 8–8, but lost the match 11–18. Griffiths reached at least the quarter-finals of the World Championship for nine consecutive years from 1984 to 1992. Neal Foulds
Neal Foulds (born 13 July 1963) is an English former professional snooker player and six-time tournament winner, including the 1986 International Open, the 1988 Dubai Masters and the 1992 Scottish Masters, as well as the invitational Pot Black in 1992. He was the runner up for the UK Championships in 1986, the British Open in 1987 and reached the semi finals of the Masters on three occasions, as well as the World Championship. After his retirement, Foulds became a commentator for the BBC and is currently part of the presenting team for ITV and Eurosport. Career The son of snooker professional Geoff Foulds, he began playing the game at the age of 11 and by the early 1980s was already one of the strongest players in his area. Dene O'Kane
Dene O'Kane (born 24 February 1963) is a former professional snooker player from Auckland, New Zealand. Career O'Kane won the 1980 New Zealand Amateur Championship, and represented New Zealand at the 1982 IBSF World Snooker Championship, winning six of his nine group matches, but failing to qualify on difference. Les Dodd (born 11 February 1954) is an English former professional snooker player. He was runner-up in the 1987 English Professional Championship. Career Dodd was born on 11 February 1954 in Stockport, and turned professional in 1982. In his first professional season, he reached the televised stages of the 1983 World Snooker Championship, where he lost 7–10 to Eddie Charlton. Dodd's only professional final was the 1987 English Professional Championship; there, he was defeated 9–5 by Tony Meo, having earlier eliminated Tony Knowles, Barry West, Mike Hallett and reigning World Champion Joe Johnson.
