Barry Fry (curler)
Barry William "The Snake" Fry (December 21, 1939 – May 14, 2021) was a Canadian curler from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Fry was the skip of the 1979 Macdonald Brier champion team from Manitoba, and won a bronze medal at that year's world championship. He was the father of 2014 Olympic gold medallist Ryan Fry. Fry was nicknamed "The Snake" for his quick delivery from the hack. Curling career Fry won his first national title in 1973, when he won the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship for Manitoba with teammates Peggy Casselman, Stephen Decter and Susan Lynch. The team finished with a 9–1 record. Fry, Casselman, Winston Warren and Helene Paton had previously won a provincial mixed title in 1970, and finished in third at the 1970 Canadian Mixed. After 12 years, Fry finally won a Manitoba provincial men's title in 1979, with his new rink of Bill Carey, Gordon Sparkes and Bryan Wood, defeating Bill Paterson in the final. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Ray Turnbull (curler)
Raymond Charles William "Moosie" Turnbull (July 19, 1939 – October 6, 2017) was a Canadian curler, coach and broadcaster from Manitoba. From 1985 to 2010, he was a member of the TSN curling coverage team along with Vic Rauter and Linda Moore. Curling Turnbull won the 1965 Brier as the lead for the Terry Braunstein team. The team would finish second to the United States in the World Curling Championships. He was named the all-star lead at both competitions. Turnbull also represented Manitoba at two Canadian Senior Curling Championships, in 1994 and 1995. Coaching More than anyone else Ray Turnbull can be credited with taking curling around the world. 1994 Canadian Senior Curling Championships
The 1994 Canadian Senior Curling Championships, Canada's national championship for curlers over 50, were held March 19 to 26, 1994 at the Hillcrest Sports Centre in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Alberta, skipped by Cordella "Red" Schwengler won the women's event, defeating Newfoundland's Sue Anne Bartlett in the final. The Alberta rink had been adopted as the fan favourites in the final, as their third Betty Clarke was a native-Saskatchewanian. The team went undefeated in the round robin before losing their last two games, settling for third place heading into the playoffs. The opposing skip, Sue Anne Bartlett, was playing in her first senior championship. At the time, she had a record 12 appearances at the Scott Tournament of Hearts Canadian women's championships, and had lost just one round robin match. Don Duguid
Donald Gordon Duguid (born January 25, 1935) is a Canadian champion curler. A three-time winner of the Canadian Brier and two-time World Curling champion, Duguid won the Brier in 1965, 1970 and 1971, and the Worlds in 1970 and 1971. He was only the second skip ever to win back to back Briers in 1971. He was inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in 1974, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1991, and the WCF Hall of Fame in 2013. In 2014, he was made a member of the Order of Manitoba.
