Barramundi Creek
The barramundi (''Lates calcarifer'') or Asian sea bass, is a species of catadromous fish in the family Latidae of the order Perciformes. The species is widely distributed in the Indo-West Pacific, spanning the waters of the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Oceania. Origin of name Barramundi is a loanword from an Australian Aboriginal language of the Rockhampton area in Queensland meaning "large-scaled river fish". Originally, the name barramundi referred to ''Scleropages leichardti'' and ''Scleropages jardinii''. However, the name was appropriated for marketing reasons during the 1980s, a decision that has aided in raising the profile of this fish significantly. ''L. calcarifer'' is broadly referred to as Asian seabass by the international scientific community, but is also known as Australian seabass. Description This species has an elongated body form with a large, slightly oblique mouth and an upper jaw extending behind the eye. The lower edge o ...

It occurs in the Western Pacific Ocean. Systematics The humpback grouper was first formally Species description, described as ''Serranus altivelis'' in 1828 by the French people, French zoologist Achille Valenciennes (1794-1865) with the Type locality (biology), type locality given as Java. In 1839 the English people, English naturalist William John Swainson (1789-1855) placed it in the subgenus ''Chromileptes'', which was later created as a monotypy, monotypic genus. Swainson spelt the genus as ''Chromileptes'' although Fishbase spells it as ''Cromileptes''. Recent molecular analyses based on five genes show that ''Cromileptes altivelis'' is included in the same clade as species of ''Epine ...

Perciformes
Perciformes (), also called the Percomorpha or Acanthopteri, is an order or superorder of ray-finned fish. If considered a single order, they are the most numerous order of vertebrates, containing about 41% of all bony fish. Perciformes means "perch-like". Perciformes is an Order within the Clade Percomorpha consisting of "perch-like" Percomorphans. This group comprises over 10,000 species found in almost all aquatic ecosystems. The order contains about 160 families, which is the most of any order within the vertebrates. It is also the most variably sized order of vertebrates, ranging from the ''Schindleria brevipinguis'' to the marlin in the genus ''Makaira''. They first appeared and diversified in the Late Cretaceous. Among the well-known members of this group are perch and darters (Percidae), sea bass and groupers (Serranidae). Characteristics The dorsal and anal fins are divided into anterior spiny and posterior soft-rayed portions, which may be partially or compl ...

Culinary Name
Culinary names, menu names, or kitchen names are names of foods used in the preparation or selling of food, as opposed to their names in agriculture or in scientific nomenclature. The menu name may even be different from the kitchen name. For example, from the 19th until the mid-20th century, many restaurant menus were written in French and not in the local language. Examples include veal (calf), calamari (squid), and sweetbreads (pancreas or thymus gland). Culinary names are especially common for fish and seafood, where multiple species are marketed under a single familiar name. Examples Foods may come to have distinct culinary names for a variety of reasons: * Euphemism: the idea of eating some foods may disgust or offend some eaters regardless of their actual taste ** Testicles: Rocky Mountain oysters, Prairie oysters, lamb fries, or animelles ** Fish milt: soft roe or white roe to disguise that is actually sperm not eggs ** Thymus gland and pancreas gland: sweetbreads * ...

''Scleropages jardinii'', the Gulf saratoga, Australian bonytongue , Pearl arowana or northern saratoga, is a freshwater bony fish native to Australia and New Guinea, one of two species of fishes sometimes known as Australian arowana, the other being ''Scleropages leichardti''. It has numerous other common names, including northern saratoga, toga and barramundi (not to be confused with the barramundi perch, ''Lates calcarifer''). It is a member of the subfamily Osteoglossinae, a ( basal) teleost group. Its scientific name is sometimes spelled ''S. jardini''. Distribution ''Scleropages jardinii'' is patchily distributed throughout most of the Gulf of Carpentaria drainage system, west to the Adelaide River in the Northern Territory, throughout northern Queensland and in central-southern New Guinea.Martin F. Scleropages Leichardti
The southern saratoga (''Scleropages leichardti''), also known as the spotted bonytongue, spotted saratoga, or simply saratoga, is a freshwater bony fish native to Australia. It belongs to the subfamily Osteoglossinae, or arowanas, a primitive group of teleosts. Like all arowanas, it is a carnivorous mouthbrooder. Along with the gulf saratoga (''Scleropages jardinii''), the saratoga is also known as the Australian arowana (mainly by non-Australian aquarists) and barramundi, although the latter name is nowadays reserved in Australia for the unrelated ''Lates calcarifer''. This species is found in turbid waters and has a more restricted distribution than the other ''Scleropages'' native to Australia, ''Scleropages jardinii''. Description Southern saratoga can grow up to . At sexual maturity, they are usually in length. They are primitive, surface-dwelling fish with strongly compressed bodies. They have an almost perfectly flat back, with a dorsal fin set back towards the tail of ...

Australian Aboriginal
Aboriginal Australians are the various Indigenous peoples of the Australian mainland and many of its islands, such as Tasmania, Fraser Island, Hinchinbrook Island, the Tiwi Islands, and Groote Eylandt, but excluding the Torres Strait Islands. The term Indigenous Australians refers to Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islanders collectively. It is generally used when both groups are included in the topic being addressed. Torres Strait Islanders are ethnically and culturally distinct, despite extensive cultural exchange with some of the Aboriginal groups. The Torres Strait Islands are mostly part of Queensland but have a separate governmental status. Aboriginal Australians comprise many distinct peoples who have developed across Australia for over 50,000 years. These peoples have a broadly shared, though complex, genetic history, but only in the last 200 years have they been defined and started to self-identify as a single group. Australian Aboriginal identity has cha ...

East Asia
East Asia is the eastern region of Asia, which is defined in both geographical and ethno-cultural terms. The modern states of East Asia include China, Japan, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, and Taiwan. China, North Korea, South Korea and Taiwan are all unrecognised by at least one other East Asian state due to severe ongoing political tensions in the region, specifically the division of Korea and the political status of Taiwan. Hong Kong and Macau, two small coastal quasi-dependent territories located in the south of China, are officially highly autonomous but are under Chinese sovereignty. Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau are among the world's largest and most prosperous economies. East Asia borders Siberia and the Russian Far East to the north, Southeast Asia to the south, South Asia to the southwest, and Central Asia to the west.
