Baron Beaumont
Baron Beaumont is an ancient title in the Peerage of England, created in 1309 for a younger branch of the French counts of ''de Brienne'' family. The sixth Baron Beaumont was created Viscount Beaumont (the first creation of this rank in England) in 1432; after the death of his son the 2nd Viscount both titles fell into abeyance. In 1840 the abeyance of the barony was terminated in favour of Miles Thomas Stapleton who was called to the peerage as the 8th Baron Beaumont. The Peerage of England comprises all peerages created in the Kingdom of England before the Act of Union in 1707. In that year, the Peerages of England and Scotland were replaced by one Peerage of Great Britain. There are five peerages in the United Kingdom in total. English Peeresses obtained their first seats in the House of Lords under the Peerage Act 1963 from which date until the passage of the House of Lords Act 1999 all Peers of England could sit in the House of Lords. The ranks of the English peerage are, in descending order, duke, marquess, earl, viscount, and baron. While most newer English peerages descend only in the male line, many of the older ones (particularly older baronies) can descend through females. William Beaumont, 2nd Viscount Beaumont
William Beaumont, 2nd Viscount Beaumont (April 1438 – 19 December 1507) was an English nobleman, soldier and landowner who was a leading supporter of the Lancastrian faction during the Wars of the Roses. He was the son of John Beaumont, 1st Viscount Beaumont and Elizabeth, daughter of Sir William Phelip. He was born at Edenham, Lincolnshire. Although his exact date of birth is not recorded, parish records show the date of his baptism as 23 April 1438. The Norman family of Beaumont was one of the great baronial Anglo-Norman families, who became rooted in England after the Norman Conquest. History Roger de Beaumont, Lord (seigneur) of Pont-Audemer, of Beaumont-le-Roger, of Brionne and of Vatteville, was too old to fight at the battle of Hastings and stayed in Normandy to govern and protect it while William was away on the invasion. As a reward, he received lands in Leicestershire. His son Robert de Beaumont, comte de Meulan, who commanded the Norman right wing at Hastings, became the first Earl of Leicester. His brother Henri de Beaumont was created Earl of Warwick. Beaumont Herald Extraordinary
Beaumont Herald of Arms Extraordinary was an officer of arms extraordinary in England. Beaumont was a royal herald, but was not a member of the College of Arms. The office was created in 1982 and named after the barony of Beaumont, one of the subsidiary titles of the Earl Marshal, the Duke of Norfolk. The badge of office combines the cross potent of the Kings of Jerusalem from whom the Beaumonts are descended, with the lion and fleur-de-lis charges from the family coat of arms. Beaumont Baronets
There have been four baronetcies created for members of the ancient House of Beaumont, all in the Baronetage of England. All four creations are extinct or dormant. The Beaumont Baronetcy, of Coleorton in the County of Leicester, was created in the Baronetage of England on 17 September 1619 for Thomas Beaumont. Viscount Beaumont Of Swords
Viscount Beaumont of Swords, in the County of Dublin, was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created on 20 May 1622 for Sir Thomas Beaumont, 1st Baronet, Member of Parliament for Leicestershire from 1604 to 1611 and High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 1610. He had already been created a baronet, of Cole Orton in the County of Leicester, in the Baronetage of England on 17 September 1619. The titles became extinct on the death of his grandson, the third Viscount in 1702. Henry Miles Fitzalan-Howard, Earl of Arundel (born 3 December 1987), also known as Henry Arundel, is a British aristocrat, businessman and former racing driver. Edward William Fitzalan-Howard, 18th Duke of Norfolk, (born 2 December 1956), styled Earl of Arundel between 1975 and 2002, is a British peer who holds the hereditary office of Earl Marshal and, as Duke of Norfolk, is the most senior peer in the peerage of England. He is also titular head of the House of Howard. Mona Josephine Tempest Fitzalan-Howard, 11th Baroness Beaumont, Baroness Howard of Glossop, OBE ( née Stapleton; 1 August 1894 – 31 August 1971) was a British peer. Personal life Mona was the elder of two daughters of Miles Stapleton, 10th Baron Beaumont, and his wife, Ethel Mary (née Tempest). Her father accidentally shot and killed himself on 16 September 1895, at which point the barony fell into abeyance between his two daughters. The barony was called out of abeyance in Mona's favour on 1 June 1896. On 5 September 1914 at St Mary's Church, Carlton, Yorkshire, she married the 3rd Baron Howard of Glossop (thus also becoming Baroness Howard of Glossop).
