Barnton RFC
Royal High School Former Pupils was a former Edinburgh rugby union club; but the club was re-formed as Barnton RFC and is now known as Royal High RFC. Royal HSFP was a founder member of the Scottish Rugby Union, the second oldest national governing body in the world. The original club was disbanded in 2003 when it merged with Corstorphine RFC but the merged club Royal High Corstorphine broke back into two clubs in 2017. These new clubs were known as Corstorphine Cougars and Barnton RFC. Barnton RFC was the start of an attempt to revive the old Royal HSFP side. The club is now known as Royal High RFC. History School The Royal High School is a school in Edinburgh with origins traceable to the 12th c at the Abbey of Holyrood, subsequently run by the City of Edinburgh. Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. Scottish Sports Hall Of Fame
The Scottish Sports Hall of Fame is the national sports hall of fame of Scotland, set up in 2002. It is a joint project organised by sportscotland, the national governmental body for Scottish sport, and National Museums Scotland. It is also funded by BBC Scotland and donations from the general public. Robert MacEwen
Robert MacEwen (25 February 1928 – 28 August 2013) was a rugby union international who represented Scotland from 1954 to 1958. Early life Robert MacEwen was born in Oxford. Hugh McLeod (rugby Union)
Hugh Ferns McLeod OBE (8 June 1932 – 12 May 2014) was a Scottish rugby union player, who played forty times for Scotland between 1954 and 1962.Bath, p148Massie, p166 He played 14 times for the Barbarians between 1954 and 1959, scoring only once, a try in their 1958 match against East Africa in Nairobi on 28 May 1958 (though this is erroneously listed on the Barbarian website as earning 5 points whereas a try was only worth 3 points at the time). Scotland National Rugby Union Team
The Scotland national rugby union team represents Scotland in men's international rugby union and is administered by the Scottish Rugby Union. The team takes part in the annual Six Nations Championship and participates in the Rugby World Cup, which takes place every four years. As of 4 December 2022, Scotland are 7th in the World Rugby Rankings. The history of the team extends back to 1871 when the Scottish rugby team played their first official test match, winning 1–0 against England at Raeburn Place. Murrayfield Stadium (known as BT Murrayfield Stadium for sponsorship reasons, or popularly as Murrayfield) is a Rugby stadium located in the Murrayfield area of Edinburgh, Scotland. Bill McLaren
William Pollock McLaren (16 October 1923 – 19 January 2010) was a Scottish rugby union commentator, teacher, journalist and one time rugby player. Known as 'the voice of rugby', he retired from commentating in 2002. Renowned throughout the sport, his enthusiasm and memorable turn of phrase endeared him to many. Selkirk RFC
Selkirk Rugby Football Club are a rugby union side based in Selkirk in the Borders, Scotland. They play in their home games at Philiphaugh, and compete in the Scottish Premiership (the highest tier of club rugby) and the Border League (the oldest established rugby union league in the world). The club was officially instituted in 1907, but the game of rugby was played in the Royal and Ancient Burgh of Selkirk long before this date. In 1877 a game described as the first to be played under rules took place at Philiphaugh. Indeed, Selkirk sent a team to the inaugural Melrose Sevens tournament back in 1883, and have been trying to win the Tournament ever since. Ivan Tukalo
Iwan Tukalo (born 5 March 1961) is a former Scotland international rugby union player. His regular playing position was Wing. Rugby Union career Amateur career The son of a Ukrainian father and Italian mother, Tukalo was educated at the Royal High School, Edinburgh He went on to play for Royal HSFP. Tukalo then moved to play for Selkirk. Provincial career Tukalo played for Edinburgh District in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. On moving to Selkirk, Tukalo then played for South of Scotland. Tukalo played for the Whites Trial side on 7 January 1984. The following year Tukalo moved up in contention and played for the Blues Trial side in their first match against the Reds Trial side. Gordon Hunter (rugby)
Gordon Rowland Robert Hunter (1949 – 9 March 2002) was a New Zealand rugby union player, coach and selector. Early life and education Hunter was raised in rural Southland, and educated at Southland Boys' High School from 1963 to 1967. Rugby career Hunter was a member of the Southland Boys' High School rugby 1st XV in 1967. He played wing and the school magazine noted that "on his day his tackles were bone- and morale-shattering." After leaving school, Hunter moved to Dunedin and joined the Zingari-Richmond club where he came under the influence of renowned coach Eric Watson. He made a couple of appearances for Otago before a workplace accident left him without his left eye.
