Barnesdale is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Tillamook County, Oregon, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. The CDP is in northern Tillamook County, in the valley of Foley Creek, a north-flowing tributary of the Nehalem River. Miami-Foley Road is the main road through the community, leading north to Oregon Route 53, from where it is a further to Nehalem along U.S. Route 101. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Hobsonville, Oregon
Hobsonville is an unincorporated community in Tillamook County, Oregon, United States. Although it is considered a ghost town, it is still classified as a populated place by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Hobsonville is on the east shore of Tillamook Bay, about 2 miles south of Garibaldi via U.S. Route 101 or about a mile from Garibaldi across Miami Cove. History The community was named after pioneer John Hobson, who was one of the founders of the local salmon cannery. Hobsonville once had an economy based on lumber and the salmon cannery–the Tillamook Packing Company–which began operating in 1884. Garibaldi, Oregon
Garibaldi ( ) is a city in Tillamook County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. The population was 797 at the 2020 census. History The indigenous Tillamook people have lived along the Oregon coast –including the Tillamook Bay– for about 12,000 years; from Tillamook Head in the North, to Cape Foulweather in the south, and extending inland to the summit of the Oregon Coast Range. They lived in permanent cedar-plank lodges, illuminated at night with torches or by burning fish heads or whale oil. Their diet included salmon, mussels, lampreys, berries, wild mustard, camas, grouse, beaver, deer, and elk. Oregon Route 53
Oregon Route 53 is an Oregon state highway that runs through a pair of river valleys in the Oregon Coast range; those of the Necanicum River and the Nehalem River. OR 53 traverses the Necanicum Highway No. 46 of the Oregon state highway system. Route description Oregon Route 53 begins (at its southern terminus) at a junction with U.S. Route 101 in the city of Nehalem. Soon after leaving the city, the highway begins to follow the North Fork of the Nehalem River (and several minor tributaries). Nehalem River
The Nehalem River is a river on the Pacific coast of northwest Oregon in the United States, approximately long. It drains part of the Northern Oregon Coast Range northwest of Portland, originating on the east side of the mountains and flowing in a loop around the north end of the range near the mouth of the Columbia River. Its watershed of includes an important timber-producing region of Oregon that was the site of the Tillamook Burn. In its upper reaches it flows through a long narrow valley of small mountain communities but is unpopulated along most of its lower reaches inland from the coast.
