Bahr el Gazel ( ar, بحر الغزال, french: Barh El Gazel) was formerly a department in the Kanem Region of Chad. In 2008 the former department was split from Kanem to become a new region of the same name. The capital of the former department and new region is Moussoro. Kanem Region
Kanem ( ar, كانم) is one of the 23 regions of Chad. It is named after the famous Kanem Empire, which was centred in this vicinity. The region's capital is Mao. It was created in 2002 from the former Prefecture of Kanem. In 2008, a portion of the Kanem region (the Bahr el Gazel Department) was split off to become the new Bahr el Gazel Region. Geography The region borders Borkou Region to the north, Bahr el Gazel Region to the east, Hadjer-Lamis Region and Lac Region to the south, and Niger to the west. Settlements Mao is the regional capital; other major settlements include Am Doback, Kekedina, Nokou, Ntiona, Rig Rig, Wadjigui and Ziguey. Moussoro
Moussoro ( ar, موسورو) is a town in Chad, lying northeast of N'Djamena on the road to Faya-Largeau. An important transportation centre, it lies in a dry river bed and as a result has more vegetation than is typical in the area. Moussoro is the capital of the region of Barh El Gazel (Bahr el Gazel). The town is served by Moussoro Airport. Moussoro is inhabited by Gouran (Krreda)(Karra) ethnic group of northern Chad. It serves as their commercial and administrative town.
