Barellan Point is a rural residential suburb in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. In the Barellan Point had a population of 1,159 people. Geography The suburb is bounded by the Brisbane River to the east and the Bremer River to the south. It includes two uninhabited islands in the Brisbane River: * Bedwell Island, island () * Finlay Island, island () but Findlay Island is now effectively attached to the mainland of Barellan Point History In February 1864 John Petrie appointed Irish engineer Joseph Brady to provide advice and designs for the navigational improvements on the Brisbane and Bremer Rivers between Brisbane and Ipswich. Paul de Jersey, (born 21 September 1948) is an Australian jurist who served as the 26th governor of Queensland, in office from 29 July 2014 to 1 November 2021. He was Chief Justice of Queensland from 1998 to 2014. Education De Jersey was educated at Anglican Church Grammar School (1961–1965) and the University of Queensland. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours in 1971. He was part of the Queensland University Regiment from 1966 to 1971 and was commissioned in 1969. RAAF Base Amberley is a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) military airbase located southwest of Ipswich, Queensland in Australia and southwest of Brisbane CBD. It is currently home to No. 1 Squadron (operating the F/A-18F Super Hornet), No. 6 Squadron (operating the EA-18G Growler), No. 33 Squadron (operating the Airbus KC-30A), No. 35 Squadron (operating the C-27J Spartan) and No. 36 Squadron (operating the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III). Joseph Brady (engineer)
Joseph Brady (18 August 1828 – 8 July 1908) was an Irish born, civil engineer active in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, Australia, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, undertaking works on railways, water supplies and ports. Among his more important works were the Coliban Water Supply for Bendigo, and Melbourne Port improvements. Early career Joseph Brady was born on 18 August 1828 near Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Ireland. He worked on the English Tithe Commutation Survey in 1842-44 working with his father where he gained skills in field surveying and draftsmanship. He then became an assistant engineer to Charles B. Vignoles on railway surveys in Lincolnshire and Kent as well as working on the Skipton, Sedbergh and Lancaster railway.
