Baracoa Regional Airport
The Baracoa Regional Airport is an airport serving the city of Magangué in the Bolívar Department of Colombia. The Baracoa Regional Airport used to be a hub for airline operations such as Avianca, LANZA and Satena. However, on January 4, 1969, the airport ceased its commercial passenger flight operations and closed its flight schools, following a decision to focus on traffic from smaller aircraft. Magangué is a municipality of Colombia in the Department of Bolivar. The town is located in the Magdalena River; 20 km north of the mouth of the Cauca River The Cauca River () is a river in Colombia that lies between the Occidental and Central cordilleras. Satena
SATENA (acronym of ''Servicio Aéreo a Territorios Nacionales'') is a Colombian government-owned airline based in Bogotá, Colombia. It operates mostly domestic routes. Its main hub is El Dorado International Airport. History SATENA was first established on April 12, 1962, by the President of the Republic, Alberto Lleras Camargo, who created the airline using Decree 940 in order ''"to form an aerial transport service for the benefit of the underdeveloped regions of the country, with the object of promoting the welfare of educational campaigns, agricultural and pastoral development and the economic and social progress of such territories."'' VOR-DME
In radio navigation, a VOR/DME is a radio beacon that combines a VHF omnidirectional range (VOR) with a distance-measuring equipment (DME). The VOR allows the receiver to measure its bearing to or from the beacon, while the DME provides the slant distance between the receiver and the station. Together, the two measurements allow the receiver to compute a position fix. The VOR system was first introduced in the 1930s, but didn't enter significant commercial use until the early 1950s. It became much more practical with the introduction of low-cost Solid state (electronics), solid state receivers in the 1960s. DME was a modification of World War II-era navigation systems like Gee-H, and began development in 1946.
