Arusha Region
Arusha City is a Tanzanian city and the regional capital of the Arusha Region, with a population of 416,442 plus 323,198 in the surrounding Arusha District Council (2012 census). Located below Mount Meru (Tanzania), Mount Meru on the eastern edge of the eastern branch of the East African Rift, Great Rift Valley, Arusha City has a temperate climate. As of 2021,there are 31 regions of Tanzania which are divided into 184 districts (Swahili: wilaya). In 2016, Songwe Region was created from the western part of Mbeya Region. Arusha Urban District (officially known as Arusha City Council) is one of the seven districts of the Arusha Region of Tanzania, and it contains the regional and economic capital; the city of Arusha. It is bordered to the south, west and north by Arusha Rural District and to east by Meru District. As of 1994, Arusha District was the wealthiest district in Tanzania.
