The Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Sramik Dal is a national trade union federation in Bangladesh and an affiliate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. It is affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation. Anwar Hossain is the president of Jatyatabadi Sramik Dal. History Bangladesh Jatyatabadi Sramik Dal was founded in 1979 as an affiliate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party with Nazrul Islam Khan as its general secretary. It organized a memorial event for Ziaur Rahman, founder president of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, at the WAPDA auditorium in January 2003. On 14 June 2003, a Chittagong unit activist of Bangladesh Jatyatabadi Sramik Dal was shot dead in Chittagong; two people were sentenced to death and one, a former FIFA referee, to life sentence. Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (; United Front of Workers and Employees) is a national federation of 16 unions in Bangladesh which collectively represent 90 percent of the unionized labor force in Bangladesh. History Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad was established on 13 April 1983 by 12 national unions in Bangladesh. This traces to a meeting of 5 unions in Bangladesh in 1982, when union activities where banned under martial law in Bangladesh, that sought to restore workers rights to unionize. The number of participating unions increased to 11 by the end of 1982. The Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, aligned with Bangladesh Nationalist Party, joined in 1983 and they collectively formed the Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad. Sadeque Hossain Khoka
Sadeque Hossain Khoka (12 May 1952 – 4 November 2019) was a Bangladeshi politician. He served as the 2nd mayor of Dhaka City Corporation during 2002 to 2011. He was the vice chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and was President of undivided Dhaka city BNP for longest period of the organisation's existence. Early life and career Khoka was born in a Muslim family. His father was an engineer and a social worker. Khoka attended Dhaka University and completed M.A. in psychology. Bangladesh Institute Of Labour Studies
The Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS) is a think tank for trade union activity and other labour matters in Bangladesh. It was founded in 1995 to support the building of trade unions and their activities and to promote trade union causes within government and society. Today, 12 Bangladeshi trade union federations are affiliated with BILS. Unlike many other labour organisations in Bangladesh, the institute is not affiliated with any political party. Ilias Ali (Bangladeshi Politician)
M Ilias Ali (1 January 1961 – disappeared 17 April 2012) was a Bangladeshi politician and member of the Jatiya Sangsad (2001–2006) representing the Sylhet-2 constituency. He served as the organising secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He, along with his personal car driver, Ansar Ali, went missing on 18 April 2012. Later that day, local police recovered his abandoned car near his residence in Banani neighborhood and found Ansar's cellphone inside. They have not been seen since. Enforced Disappearances In Bangladesh
Enforced disappearances in Bangladesh are cases in which the Government of Bangladesh directly or indirectly kidnaps people and holds them incommunicado. According to a Dhaka-based human rights group Odhikar, at least 402 people have become victim of enforced disappearance from 2009 to 2017 under the current Awami League administration. These incidents along with extrajudicial killings in Bangladesh has been criticized by The United Nations and human rights groups including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), a special paramilitary unit in Bangladesh, is alleged to be behind most of these disappearances even though RAB claimed these allegations to be false. The current Awami League government denies involvement in these forced disappearances even when victims later surface in custody.
