Bandy Federation Of India
Bandy Federation of India (BFI) is the governing body of bandy in India. It is headquartered in Mandi. The Bandy Federation of India was established in 2001 and became a member of the Federation of International Bandy the year after. Bandy is generally played in northern India where there is usually snow and ice. India is one of seven Asian countries to be a member of the Federation of International Bandy. The Bandy Federation of India administers bandy in India. The international debut of India national bandy team was set to take place at the 2011 Asian Winter Games, but they didn't come. Then they were supposed to play in the first Asian Bandy Championships to be held in Almaty in December 2012, a tournament which ultimately did not take place. Bandy is a winter sport and ball sport played by two teams wearing ice skates on a large ice surface (either indoors or outdoors) while using sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's goal. The international governing body for bandy is the Federation of International Bandy (FIB). The playing surface, called a bandy field or bandy rink, is a sheet of ice which measures 90–110 meters by 45–65 meters – about the size of a football pitch. The field is considerably larger than the ice rinks commonly used for ice hockey, rink bandy, or figure skating. The goal cage used in bandy is 3.5 m (11 ft) wide and 2.1 m (6 ft 11 in) high and is the largest one used by any organized winter team sport. The Federation of International Bandy (FIB; french: Fédération internationale de bandy, russian: Международная федерация хоккея с мячом, sv, Internationella Bandyförbundet) is the international governing body for the sport of bandy, including the variant called rink bandy. The federation is headquartered in Söderhamn, Sweden. History Bandy as we know it today has been played since the later half of the 19th Century. Rules were set up in the 1890s by the National Bandy Association in England and by the corresponding body in Russia. The Ligue International de Hockey sur Glace (LIHG) was founded on 15 May 1908 at 34 Rue de Provence in Paris, France, at a time when bandy and ice hockey were seen as variants of the same game. Mandi ( formerly known as Mandav Nagar, also known as Sahor) is a major city and a municipal corporation in Mandi District in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated north of state capital, Shimla in the north-west Himalayas at an average altitude of 880 metres and experiences pleasant summers and cold winters.
