Ban Sop Ruak
Ban Sop Ruak (Thai: บ้านสบรวก) is a village in Wiang subdistrict (''tambon'') of Chiang Saen District (''amphoe'') in Chiang Rai Province, northern Thailand. The village is situated at the confluence of the Ruak River and the Mekong River which forms the tripoint border of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. This location has enabled it to be marketed to tourists as the "heart" of the Golden Triangle (Southeast Asia), as the area is popularly known as. Location The village clings along the west bank of the wide Mekong River and its smaller tributary, the Ruak River, with Laos and Myanmar lying across these rivers respectively. Behind the village are the forested hills of Chiang Saen. ''Mae Sai'' ( th, แม่สาย, ; Shan: , ), is the district town of Mae Sai District in the far north of Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. Mae Sai is a major border crossing between Thailand and Myanmar where the town of Tachileik, in Shan State is right across the bridge. Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone
The Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone ( Lao: ເຂດເສດຖະກິດພິເສດ ສາມຫຼ່ຽມທອງຄຳ, ) is located along the Mekong River in the Ton Pheung District of Bokeo Province in Laos. The zone has an area about 3,000 hectares and was created in 2007 by the Lao Government together with the Chinese-owned Hong Kong registered company Kings Romans Group with the hope of generating economic development. The zone is dominated by the Kings Romans casino which attracts mostly Chinese visitors, and several hotels. It is part of a wider trend of casinos emerging in the Mekong region following the displacement of money laundering from Macao in 2014. Chiang Rai International Airport
Mae Fah Luang - Chiang Rai International Airport ( th, ท่าอากาศยานแม่ฟ้าหลวง เชียงราย, ) is in the city of Chiang Rai in northern Thailand. The airport is about 8 km from the city center. Since 1998 it has been managed by the Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT). In 2013 the airport handled over 1,000,000 passengers and 7,000 passenger flights. The airport had international flight facilities and served few international routes to Kunming, Haikou, Hangzhou, Changsha, Xishuangbanna, Shenzhen, and Chengdu, all of which have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2014, Airports of Thailand said that they would expand Chiang Rai airport. The plans include building an additional taxiway and more shops, and possibly extending the runway. Ruak River
The Ruak River ( th, แม่น้ำรวก, , ; nod, ) is a right hand tributary of the Mekong. The mouth of the Ruak river is at the Thai-Burma border opposite Laos, a spot known as the "Golden Triangle", a popular tourist destination. Course The Ruak originates within the hills of the Daen Lao Range, Shan State (Burma), and becomes the boundary river between Thailand and Burma at the confluence with the Mae Sai River near the northernmost point of Thailand.
