Ballyfin GAA
Ballyfin GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling and gaelic football club located in the village of Ballyfin in County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green and white. The club grounds are at Cappinrush, beside Ballyfin's Roman Catholic church. The current Laois senior football player James Finn is a member of the club as is Oliver Phelan who managed Laois to their 1996 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship. Ballyfin have won the Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship on 3 occasions; in 1970 defeating Ballinakill, in 1985 defeating Clonaslee and most recently in 2006 defeating Colt. Prior to their 1970 win, in 1967 Ballyfin defeated traditional rivals Clonaslee in the Laois Junior Hurling Championship final to gain promotion to the intermediate ranks. In 1972 they made their one and only appearance in the Laois Senior Hurling Championship final, losing out to Borris-in-Ossory. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Ballyroan GAA
Ballyroan Abbey GAA was a Gaelic football club in Ballyroan, County Laois, Ireland. Founded in 1887, the club colours were sky blue and navy, originally having been royal blue with a dominant white V on the front. The club won eight Laois Senior Football Championship titles, the most recent of which was in 1992. It also won the second ever Laois Junior A Football Championship in 1907. In 2006, a number of Ballyroan players were part of the Ballyroan Gaels squad that won the Laois Senior Football Championship. Ballyroan Gaels was an amalgamation of the two neighbouring clubs, Abbeyleix GAA and Ballyroan. In 2007 the two clubs joined together to form the new Ballyroan Abbey GAA club. The Laois Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1907. The Heath are the title holders (2022) defeating Arles–Kilcruise in the Final. Timahoe GAA
Timahoe GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in the village of Timahoe, County Laois, Ireland. Club colours are red and white and the club grounds are called Páirc Mochua. It provided the venue for the 1984 All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship Final, where Kerry defeated Leitrim. Timahoe's only Laois Senior Football Championship title to date came in 1969 when Tom Joe Bradley captained the club to the county title. Bobby Miller was probably one of Timahoe's greatest ever players while former Laois senior star Pauric Clancy was midfielder on the 2003 Laois team which won the Leinster Senior Football Championship. The Laois All-County Football League (ACFL) is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by Laois GAA clubs. There are seven divisions and teams are promoted and relegated according to their league standing each year. Prior to the inception of the All-County Football League, league competitions titled the Senior Football League, Intermediate Football League and Junior Football League were in place. These would have roughly equated to the current top three or four divisions in the ACFL. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root.
