Balliang is a locality in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. It is divided between the Shire of Moorabool and City of Greater Geelong local government areas. It lies north of Geelong and from the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Balliang had a population of 290. History The locality was named for a house in Geelong owned by Foster Fyans, which was in turn named for Balliang (or Ballyang), who was an Aboriginal leader employed by Fyans. Balliang Post Office opened on 23 June 1910 and closed in 1968. Demographics As of the 2016 Australian census, 290 people resided in Balliang. The median age of persons in Balliang was 42 years. There were more females than males, with 52.7% of the population female and 47.3% male. Balliang East is a small town 45 km west of Melbourne. The Local Government Area is the Shire of Moorabool while the population of the town is 199. The Shire of Moorabool is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the western part of the state. It covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 34,158. It includes the towns of Ballan, Bacchus Marsh, Balliang, Mount Wallace, Myrniong, Blackwood, Greendale, Gordon, Korweinguboora and Mount Egerton, Bungaree, Elaine and Wallace. It was formed in 1994 from the amalgamation of the Shire of Bacchus Marsh, Shire of Ballan and parts of the Shire of Bungaree and City of Werribee. The Shire is governed and administered by the Moorabool Shire Council; its seat of local government and administrative centre is located at the council headquarters in Ballan, it also has service centres located in Bacchus Marsh and Darley. Parwan is a town in Victoria, Australia, west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Melton and the Shire of Moorabool local government areas. Parwan recorded a population of 188 at the 2021 census. Predominantly Parwan lies within the local government area (LGA) of the Shire of Moorabool, but some of Parwan lies within the LGA of the City of Melton. History Parwan railway station opened on the Ararat railway line in 1886 and closed in the 1980s.
