Größnitz is a village and a former municipality in the Burgenlandkreis district, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since July 1, 2009, it has been part of the municipality of Balgstädt. Geography Größnitz is located between Halle (Saale) and Weimar. The village of Städten was part of the former municipality of Größnitz. History Größnitz and the other towns belonged to the Wettiner, later Electoral Saxon office of Freyburg until 1815. The decisions of the Congress of Vienna were to give them to Prussia, and in 1816 it was allocated to the district of Querfurt in the administrative region of Merseburg of Saxony Province until 1944. On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Städten was incorporated. Größnitz was incorporated into the municipality of Balgstädt on July 1, 2009. History The district was established as Landkreis Burgenland by the merger of the former Burgenlandkreis and Landkreis Weißenfels as part of the reform of 2007. On 16 July 2007, the district parliament decided to change the name to Burgenlandkreis, coming into effect on 1 August 2007. In East Germany, a Landwirtschaftliche Produktionsgenossenschaft (LPG) (English: 'Agricultural Production Cooperative') was a large, collectivised farm in East Germany, corresponding to the Soviet kolkhoz. In the agriculture of East Germany, the collectivisation of private and state-owned agricultural land was the progression of a policy of food security (at the expense of large scale bourgeois farmers). It began in the years of Soviet occupation (1945–48) as part of the need to govern resources in the Soviet Sector.
