Bakonya
Bakonya is a village () in central Baranya County, Pécs District, in southern Hungary. It is located in the western Mecsek, Mecsek mountain range and was the site of a Uranium mining, uranium mine from the 1950s to 1989. Its population at the 2011 Census of Hungary, 2011 Census was 335. Etymology The name comes from the Slavic languages, Slavic ''bukovina'': beech forest. Geography The village is located at 46° 5′ 12″ N, 18° 4′ 51″ E. Its area is . It is part of the Southern Transdanubia statistical region, and administratively it falls under Baranya County and then Pécs District. It lies west of the city of Pécs and is bordered by the villages of Hetvehely to the north, Kővágótöttös to the east, Bicsérd to the south, and Boda, Hungary, Boda to the west. Mecsek
Mecsek (; hr, Meček; Serbian: ''Meček'' or Мечек; german: Metscheck) is a mountain range in southern Hungary. It is situated in the Baranya region, in the north of the city of Pécs. Etymology The Hungarian toponym "Mecsek" derives from the sobriquet version of the name Mihály (Michael). Originally applied only to the hills adjacent to Pécs, the name Mecsek was first mentioned in 16th century. Geography The mountains cover an area of approximately 500 km2. The highest peak in the mountain range is Zengő (literally translates to 'resonant'), which has an elevation of 682 metres (2238 feet). The Mecsek Hills consist of plateau-like block mountains of a broken, folded structure. Its basis is crystalline rock of Variscan origin surmounted by Triassic and Jurassic limestone and dolomite and Tertiary formations that form the main block.
