Bakonya is a village () in central Baranya County, Pécs District, in southern Hungary. It is located in the western Mecsek, Mecsek mountain range and was the site of a Uranium mining, uranium mine from the 1950s to 1989. Its population at the 2011 Census of Hungary, 2011 Census was 335. Etymology The name comes from the Slavic languages, Slavic ''bukovina'': beech forest. Geography The village is located at 46° 5′ 12″ N, 18° 4′ 51″ E. Its area is . It is part of the Southern Transdanubia statistical region, and administratively it falls under Baranya County and then Pécs District. Sandstone
Sandstone is a clastic sedimentary rock composed mainly of sand-sized (0.0625 to 2 mm) silicate grains. Sandstones comprise about 20–25% of all sedimentary rocks. Danube-Drava National Park
Danube-Drava National Park was founded in 1996 and is located in the south west of Hungary. The current area is 490 square kilometres and the majority of the national park sites are located within the Danube and Drava floodland areas, of which 190 km2 are Ramsar Convention, Ramsar wetlands. Black stork and White-tailed eagle populations are of European significance. Seven invertebrate species are found only here in Hungary. Habitats along the Drava host more than 400 protected plants and animals. Species endemic to national park areas include the Crataegus nigra, black hawthorn and the Drava caddis fly.
