Gerbrand Bakker (novelist)
Gerbrand Bakker (born 28 April 1962) is a Dutch writer. He won the International Dublin Literary Award for ''The Twin (novel), The Twin'', the English translation of his novel ''Boven is het stil'', and the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize for ''The Detour (novel), The Detour'', the English translation of his novel ''De omweg''. Biography Bakker is a gardener by trade, having acquired his gardening license in 2006. He says writing and gardening are compatible. Bakker works as a skating instructor in winters. He has previously worked as a subtitler for Dutch TV, particularly on the U.S. soap opera ''The Bold and the Beautiful''. Cornelis Bakker
Cornelis Jan Bakker (11 March 1904 – 23 April 1960) was a Dutch physicist and second Director General of CERN. He was also a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences. Biography Bakker studied physics at the University of Amsterdam under Pieter Zeeman. In 1931 he obtained his doctorate. His doctoral thesis dealt with the effects of Zeeman effect on spectral lines of noble gases. The next year he spent at the Imperial College of Science in London, where he continued his research in the area of spectroscopy. In 1933 he worked for the scientific department of Philips in Eindhoven, where he was active in the field of wireless technology. In the following his interest in nuclear physics grow and he started during World War II in cooperation with August Heyn with the development of a cyclotron for Philips. Gijs Bakker (Amersfoort, 20 February 1942) is a Dutch jewellery and industrial-designer, educated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and the Konstfackskolan in Stockholm, Sweden. Bakker's designs cover jewellery, home accessories and household appliances, furniture, interiors, public spaces and exhibitions. He worked and works for numerous companies amongst which are Polaroid, Artifort, HEMA, Royal VKB, and ENO Studio. Bakker is widower of the jewellery designer Emmy van Leersum. Edwin Bakker (born 20 October 1967) is head of the knowledge and research department of the Netherlands Police Academy and professor of Terrorism Studies at Leiden University. Huib Johan Bakker (born 2 March 1965) is a Dutch physicist working in the field of ultrafast spectroscopy. He has been president of research institute AMOLF since 1 February 2016. Gerbrand Bakker (physician)
Gerbrand Bakker (Enkhuizen, November 1, 1771 – Groningen, June 15, 1828) was an eminent Dutch physician, professor at the University of Groningen. He first studied medicine with M.S. du Pui, physician in Alkmaar. In 1788 he enrolled at the University of Groningen, transferring two years later to the University of Leiden, where he received his doctorate in May 1794. His instructors were the celebrated Dupui, Sandifort, Paradys, and Voltelen. He married Jacoba Johanna Poel on January 4, 1800 at Enkhuizen. He practised first at Edam, and was made a reader at the Teyler surgical school at Haarlem in 1806. The next year, he declined a professorship at the University of Franeker.
