Bagutta Prize
The Bagutta Prize is an Italian literary prize that is awarded annually to Italian writers. The prize originated among patrons of Milan's ''Bagutta Ristorante''. The writer Riccardo Bacchelli discovered the restaurant and soon he regularly gathered numerous friends who would dine there together and discuss books. They began charging fines to the person who arrived last to an appointed meal, or who failed to appear. At first the funds so collected were spent on miscellaneous items, but on 11 November 1927 the group decided to use the funds to create a literary prize. They named it after the restaurant. Silvio Negro
Silvio Negro (15 April 1897 – 3 November 1959) was an Italian essayist and journalist. Born in Chiampo, the son of a humble farmer, Negro was a mountain artillery officer during World War I, and also received several decorations. After the war, he started composing poems under the pseudonym "Orsobruno" and graduated in letters at the University of Padua in 1922.Federico Ruozzi (2013).Negro, Silvio. Italo Calvino
Italo Calvino (, also , ;. RAI (circa 1970), retrieved 25 October 2012. 15 October 1923 – 19 September 1985) was an Italian writer and journalist. Pier Angelo Soldini
Pier Angelo Soldini (25 May 1910 – 12 July 1974) was an Italian novelist, essayist and journalist. Born in Castelnuovo Scrivia, in 1935 Soldini won a special Viareggio Prize for best first work thanks to his debut novel ''Alghe e meduse''. In 1937, he won the Bagutta Prize for the book ''Sole e bandiere''. Soldini collaborated as a journalist with various publications, and was editorial director of the publishing house Palazzi. Giuseppe Lanza
Giuseppe Lanza, Duke of Camastra, was a 17th-century Sicilian nobleman who oversaw the reconstruction of many Sicilian towns and cities following the earthquake of 1693. He was created 1st Duke of Camastra, and Prince of Santo Stefano. He married twice, his first wife, whom he married in Palermo in 1668 was Maria Gomez de Sylveira, Principessa di Santo Stefano, the daughter of Luigi Gomez de Sylveira and Giovanna Ferreri, she died 1675. His second wife was Melchiorra Castello, daughter of Gregorio Castello, Principe di Castelferrato and Anna Marchese. Alfonso Gatto
Alfonso Gatto (17 July 1909 – 8 March 1976) was an Italian writer. Along with Giuseppe Ungaretti and Eugenio Montale, he is one of the foremost Italian poets of the 20th century and a major exponent of hermetic poetry. Biography Gatto studied at the Salerno classic lycaeum, where he discovered his passion for poetry and literature. In 1926 he attended the University of Naples Federico II, but he had to discontinue his studies due to financial problems. Like many Italian poets of his age, such as Eugenio Montale and Salvatore Quasimodo, he never graduated. Gatto fell in love with Jole, the daughter of his mathematics teacher, and at the age of 21, he eloped with her to Milan. Indro Alessandro Raffaello Schizogene Montanelli (; 22 April 1909 – 22 July 2001) was an Italian journalist, historian and writer. He was one of the fifty World Press Freedom Heroes according to the International Press Institute.
