Bago (formerly spelt Pegu; , ), formerly known as Hanthawaddy, is a city and the capital of the Bago Region in Myanmar. It is located north-east of Yangon. Etymology The Burmese name Bago (ပဲခူး) is likely derived from the Mon language place name Bagaw ( mnw, ဗဂေါ, ). Until the Burmese government renamed English place names throughout the country in 1989, Bago was known as Pegu. Bago was formerly known as Hanthawaddy (; ; ; lit. "she who possesses the sheldrake"), the name of a Burmese-Mon kingdom. Bago (born February 3, 2001, in France) was the European Three-Year-Old Champion Thoroughbred race horse in 2004. Bred by the Niarchos family, Bago is best known for winning the 2004 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe amongst his five Group One successes. Background Bago's dam Moonlight's Box, a daughter of the Champion Sire Nureyev, who also sired Miesque, the dual Breeders' Cup winner. She in turn is out of Group 1 winning Coup de Genie, a full sister to Machiavellian. Umaru Bago Tafida III (born 1954) is the 12th Emir, Etsu, or traditional ruler of Lapai in Niger State, Nigeria appointed in July 2002. He succeeded Emir Alhaji Muhammadu Kobo, who died at the age of 92 after ruling for 48 years, and was appointed to the stool by the Niger State governor Abdulkadir Kure. Mislav Bago (13 September 1973 – 18 August 2022) was a Croatian journalist and broadcaster. The winner of a number of awards and decorations, Bago was known as one of the best Croatian TV journalists, and he was known for his unwavering attitude and questions with which he would put his interlocutors, often high-ranking individuals from domestic politics, into very awkward situations. Biography Bago was born in Zagreb in 1973. He finished elementary school in Velika Gorica and high school in Zagreb, after which he entered the Faculty of Political Sciences in Zagreb, where he graduated. Đuro Bago (born 20 April 1961 in Zagreb, Yugoslavia) is a football coach and sports director. He is currently the sports' director of NK Inter Zaprešić in the Croatian First League. Bågø is a small Danish island located in the Little Belt 5 km north-west of Assens on the island of Funen belonging to Assens Municipality. With an area of , as of 1 January 2015 it has a population of 25. The island is divided into three low slopes reaching a maximum height of 8 meters above sea level. Bago District ( my, ပဲခူးခရိုင်) is a district of the Bago Region in central Burma (Myanmar). The region's capital, Bago, is located in the district. Bago District is bordered by Mon State to the southeast, Kayin State to the east, and Yangon Region to the southwest.
