Emirates Arena
The Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, known for sponsorship reasons as the Emirates Arena, is an indoor arena and velodrome in Dalmarnock, Glasgow, Scotland. Built for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, these venues hosted the badminton and track cycling events. Situated opposite Celtic Park in the East End of Glasgow, the complex is the headquarters of Sportscotland and Scottish Cycling. History It was built on a site at a cost of £113 million. Adrian Liu (born September 17, 1983) is a male Canadian badminton player from Prince Rupert, British Columbia. He has been the top ranked men's individual and doubles player on the continent and a contender in major international competitions. He is a National champion in men's doubles and has won several international titles since 2010. Career Liu is one of the leaders of the Canadian badminton team. With partner Derrick Ng, the two are a force to be reckoned with in men's doubles in Pan American competition. One of the highlights was winning bronze at the 2011 Pan American Games. In 2014 the duo won the Pan American Championships, defeating the top seeds in the final. They successfully defended their titles from 2013 and 2012 when they had been the number one seeds. Robert Blair (badminton)
Robert Blair (born 7 August 1981) is a Scottish badminton player. Blair was born in Scotland, but after attending Loughborough University in Leicestershire, he competed for England from 2001 until 2010, except at the Olympic Games, where Scotland and England are both parts of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team. His main motivation for changing nation was the prospect of medals at the Commonwealth Games. On 16 December 2010 Badminton England and Badminton Scotland announced that Blair would be returning to Scotland. Qualification for tennis at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, was determined not by any form of qualifying tournament, but by the rankings maintained by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). Qualifying criteria The main qualifying criteria were the ATP and WTA ranking lists as of 11 June 2012. The players entering were formally submitted by the International Tennis Federation. The ATP and WTA rankings were based on performances from the previous 52 weeks, and there were several tournaments in the two-month period between the time of the rankings being frozen for entry and the beginning of the tennis events at the Olympics. Kevin James Dennerly-Minturn (born 18 May 1989) is a New Zealand badminton player. In 2014, he competed at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Career Dennerly-Minturn is an Auckland player on the international circuit and is also from the College Rifles badminton club. He comes from a very active and sporting family.
