Virginia Albert-Poyotte
Virginia Albert-Poyotte, OBE, is a Saint Lucian politician and former veteran educator. She is the Minister for the Public Service, Home Affairs, Labour and Gender Affairs. Poyotte, the endorsed Saint Lucia Labour Party candidate was elected at the 2021 Saint Lucian General Election as the representative in the House of Assembly for the constituency of Babonneau. Post career Poyotte taught at the Babonneau and the Laguerre Primary Schools from 1971 to 1988. The House of Assembly is the lower house of the Parliament of Saint Lucia, elected by popular vote. The upper house is the Senate. It has 17 or 18 members: 17 members elected for a five-year term in single-seat constituencies, and a speaker elected by the 17 members, who may be one of their number or a person chosen from outside the House. 2021 Saint Lucian General Election
General elections were held in Saint Lucia on 26 July 2021, having been constitutionally required by 12 October 2021. Voters elected all 17 members of the House of Assembly. The result was a victory for the opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party, which won 13 of the 17 seats in the House, while the ruling United Workers Party lost nine of its eleven seats. It was the fourth consecutive election in which the incumbent government lost. Castries District is one of 10 districts (formerly called quarters) of the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia. Gros Islet District, one of 10 first order subdivision ( districts, formerly quarters) of the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia which includes the island's northernmost point, Cap Point and the notable Cap Estate, where the renowned St. Lucia Golf and Country Club is located. Castries is the capital and largest city of Saint Lucia, an island country in the Caribbean. The urban area has a population of approximately 20,000, while the eponymous district has a population of 70,000, as at May 2013. The city stretches over an area of .
