BC Nevėžis ( lt, Krepšinio klubas Nevėžis), commonly known as Nevėžis Kėdainiai, also known as Nevėžis-OPTIBET due to sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club based in Kėdainiai, Lithuania. The club currently competes in the Lithuanian Basketball League. History BC Nevėžis was founded in 1992 by Stasys Mickevičius. In 1993 BC Nevėžis was renamed to KK Notra because of the club supporters UAB Notra. In 1999 because of the supporters changes, BC Notra was renamed to BC Nevėžis again until now. Club name came from the Nevėžis River, flowing through Kėdainiai city. Nevėžis first played in the second division LKAL (now - National Basketball League (Lithuania)), winning the title in 2002 and qualifying to the Lithuanian Basketball League. Lietuvos krepšinio lyga (LKL) (''English'': Lithuanian Basketball League), also known as Betsafe LKL for sponsorship reasons, is the premier professional men's club basketball league in Lithuania. It is composed of 12 teams, and it is a member of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation. The best LKL clubs are also annual participants of the top European-wide basketball competitions, including European professional club basketball system, the top-tier level EuroLeague. On April 22, 1993, the Lietuvos krepšinio asociacija (''English'': Lithuanian Basketball Association) (LKA) was founded. It was the first professional sports organisation in Lithuania. Astoria Bydgoszcz, also known as simply Astoria, is a Polish multi-sports club most known for the professional men's basketball team, based in Bydgoszcz. Playing in the Polish Basketball League and in the past in the FIBA Korać Cup. History In the 2018–19 season, Astoria defeated Śląsk Wrocław in the finals of the play-offs, thus crowning itself I Liga champions. Justinas Marcinkevičius (10 March 1930 – 16 February 2011) was a prominent Lithuanian poet and playwright. Life and career Marcinkevičius was born in 1930 in Važatkiemis, Prienai District. In 1954, he graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology of Vilnius University with a degree in Lithuanian language and literature. He joined the Communist Party of Lithuania in 1957.
