History BBC Wiltshire Sound (1989–2002) The station was launched as BBC Wiltshire Sound on 4 April 1989, with its main studios and headquarters in Prospect Place, Swindon. The station was not initially titled 'BBC Radio Wiltshire' because at that time its competitor GWR owned the trademark of 'Wiltshire' and 'Radio' in whatever combination. The first presenter heard on air was Paul Chantler. The early logo of the station featured the Westbury White Horse, White Horse at Westbury. Rosemary Squires
Rosemary Squires MBE (born Joan Rosemary Yarrow, 7 December 1928) is an English jazz, big band, cabaret and concert singer and recording artist. Her career started in 1940 with an appearance on the BBC Home Service's ''Children's Hour'', and has endured into the 21st century. Squires is also currently the president of the Studio Theatre in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Early life Born in Bristol, England, Squires was the daughter of a civil servant. She took singing, guitar and piano lessons while at school at St Edmund's Girls' School, Salisbury, Wiltshire. Initially she entertained troops by singing on nearby UK and US army bases around Salisbury. With her appealing West Country burr she sang with various musical groups and with a Polish military band, all the while maintaining a job in a shop for antique books and later office work. BBC Radio Devon is the BBC's local radio station serving the county of Devon. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV and via BBC Sounds from studios in the Mannamead area of Plymouth. According to RAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 142,000 listeners and a 7.1% share as of September 2022. History BBC Radio Devon started broadcasting on 17 January 1983, replacing the BBC Radio 4 regional breakfast show '' Morning Sou'West''. On the same day, BBC Radio Cornwall started broadcasting, as did BBC Breakfast television. When broadcasting started, the new studios in Exeter had not yet been finished, so BBC Radio Devon was broadcast from portable cabins for the first few weeks. BBC Radio Gloucestershire is the BBC's local radio station serving the county of Gloucestershire. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, AM, digital TV and via BBC Sounds from studios at Portland Court in Gloucester. According to RAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 79,000 listeners and a 6.0% share as of September 2022. Transmitters The main FM transmitter is at Churchdown Hill near to jct 11 on the M5 which broadcasts on 104.7 FM to Gloucester, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury. The FM output is relayed from the Stroud transmitter on 95 FM and from the Cirencester transmitter on 95.8 FM. A419 Road
The A419 road is a primary route between Chiseldon near Swindon at junction 15 of the M4 with the A346 road, and Whitminster in Gloucestershire, England near the M5 motorway. The A419 is managed and maintained by a private company, Road Management Group, on behalf of the UK Department for Transport. Blunsdon
Blunsdon is a civil parish in the Borough of Swindon, in Wiltshire, England, about north of the centre of Swindon, with the A419 forming its southern boundary. Its main settlement is the village of Broad Blunsdon, with Lower Blunsdon nearby; the hamlet of Broadbush is now contiguous with Broad Blunsdon. Blunsdon is the eastern half of the former Blunsdon St Andrew civil parish. In April 2017, that parish was divided and the western half became a new St Andrews parish. History Blunsdon dates from Roman times: it was discovered that a Roman travellers’ resting place existed on the site of the present-day Cold Harbour public house. Peter Heaton-Jones
Peter Heaton-Jones (born 1963) is a British Conservative Party politician, journalist and broadcaster. He was first elected as the Member of Parliament for North Devon at the 2015 general election.
