''BBC South Today'' is the BBC's regional television news service for the south of England, covering Hampshire, Isle of Wight, West Sussex, much of Dorset and parts of Berkshire, Surrey and Wiltshire. Since 2000, an opt-out of the main programme has also covered Oxfordshire, parts of Wiltshire , small parts of eastern Gloucestershire, western Buckinghamshire and southern Northamptonshire. Overview The BBC began broadcasting a regional TV news programme for the south of England (then known as ''South at Six'', but changing to the current title in the mid 1960s) in January 1961, getting on air four months before the launch of Southern Television's rival magazine programme ''Day by Day''. Originally, the BBC's Southampton operations were based in South Western House, the former Cunard shipping line headquarters near the city's docks. Sally Taylor (TV Presenter)
Sally Taylor MBE is an English journalist and presenter, best known for presenting BBC ''South Today''. She attended The Abbey School, Reading, an independent school. Before beginning her career as a presenter and journalist, she was an English teacher at Winstanley Community College, Leicester. She has presented ''South Today'', the flagship news programme of BBC South, since 1987. Taylor also writes a weekly column in the Southern Daily Echo. She had a Saturday morning show on Radio Solent for many years until February 2011. In 2003, Taylor successfully filled in when weather presenter Dorcas Henry collapsed live on air. Digital terrestrial television in the United Kingdom encompasses over 100 television, radio and interactive services broadcast via the United Kingdom's terrestrial television network and receivable with a standard television set. The majority of digital terrestrial television (DTT) services, including the five former analogue channels, are broadcast free-to-air, and a further selection of encrypted pay TV services (such as Racing TV) are also available. Freeview is the only DTT service since Top Up TV closed in 2013. BT TV services are carried via IPTV signals. ''BBC South East Today'' is the BBC South East regional television news programme, serving Kent, East Sussex, part of West Sussex and a small part of Surrey. Prior to its launch on 3 September 2001, most of the viewers in the region received ''Newsroom South East'', though some had been receiving ''South Today''. ''South East Today'' is produced and broadcast live from the BBC's South East Regional Production Centre in Royal Tunbridge Wells with district reporters covering Brighton, Chatham, Dover and Hastings. Sussex (), from the Old English (), is a historic county in South East England that was formerly an independent medieval Anglo-Saxon kingdom. Heathfield Transmitter
The Heathfield transmitting station is a facility for FM and television Transmission (telecommunications), transmission at Heathfield, East Sussex, UK (grid reference TQ566220). Opened in 1969, its antenna (radio), antenna mast is a tall guyed structure, giving the transmitter a height of above sea level. A Group B (or wideband or K group) horizontally polarised aerial is required to receive digital TV signals. The original analogue signals were in the Group C/D band, but all the digital MUXES should still be receivable on a C/D group aerial in reasonable signal areassee graph. ''BBC News at Ten'' formerly known as the ''BBC Ten O'Clock News'' or the ''Ten O'Clock News'' is the flagship evening news programme for the BBC News channel and British television channel BBC One on weekdays and Sundays at 10:00pm. Harry John Gration (22 October 1950 – 24 June 2022) was an English journalist and broadcaster. He was one of the main anchors for the BBC Yorkshire regional magazine programme '' Look North''. He was often referred to as ''Mr. Yorkshire'' by the media. Early life Born in Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire, to Nina (nee Smith) and Morris Gration, Gration was raised in a back-to-back house in the city. His father was a chemist who was a manager at a Boots store in the city and promotion took the family first to Leeds, then York. Gration was educated at Leeds Grammar School and at St Peter's School in York, and after leaving education, he initially spent five years as a history teacher and eventually, a head of history at The Rodillian Academy, a school in Lofthouse, near Leeds. Mark Longhurst is a British news presenter. Longhurst presented on ITV's regional news, ITV News West Country until October 2017. Before this, he was a presenter at Sky News, where he presented the channel's evening news programmes from Friday to Sunday until August 2016. Paddy Haycocks
Paddy Haycocks is an experienced broadcaster and producer who has worked in the British media for over 25 years. Born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, on 9 April 1950 his first brush with fame came when he was appearing on the ''Streetwise'' section of the ill-fated Channel Four Daily. Haycocks regularly interviewed a lawyer who represented Ronnie Kray. The sartorially traditional Kray disapproved of Haycock's open-necked presenting style and sent him a beautiful silk tie, which Haycocks naturally wore at the first opportunity.
