''Bắc 54'', or ''Bắc Kỳ 54'' (both meaning ''"Northern ietnamese of1954"''), refers to Northern Vietnamese people living in (or from) southern Vietnam, who migrated there from North Vietnam in 1954 and early 1955, mostly through Operation Passage to Freedom. Operation Passage to Freedom Operation Passage to Freedom was an initiative by the U.S. Navy and French military to transport Vietnamese civilians who wished to relocate to the Southern half of Vietnam from the North, mostly by ship or aircraft, as provided under the 1954 Geneva Accords, which created a 300-day period where people could migrate freely between communist North Vietnam and anti-communist South Vietnam before the border was sealed on May 18, 1955. North Vietnam
North Vietnam, officially the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV; vi, Việt Nam Dân chủ Cộng hòa), was a socialist state supported by the Soviet Union (USSR) and the People's Republic of China (PRC) in Southeast Asia that existed from 1945 to 1976 and was recognized in 1954. Both the North Vietnamese and South Vietnamese states ceased to exist when they unified as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. During the August Revolution following World War II, Vietnamese communist revolutionary Hồ Chí Minh, leader of the Việt Minh Front, declared independence on 2 September 1945, announcing the creation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. North Central Coast
Bắc Trung Bộ (literally North Central Region, and often translated as North Central Coast) is one of the regions of Vietnam. It consists of six provinces: Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, Thừa Thiên–Huế. The last two provinces were the northernmost provinces of South Vietnam until 1976. The Fall of Saigon, also known as the Liberation of Saigon by North Vietnamese or Liberation of the South by the Vietnamese government, and known as Black April by anti-communist overseas Vietnamese was the capture of Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam, by the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) and the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam (Viet Cong) on 30 April 1975. Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu Province
Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu ) is a province of Vietnam. It is located on the coast of the country's Southeast region. It also includes the Côn Đảo islands, located some distance off Vietnam's southeastern coast. From 1954 to 1975, under South Vietnam, the province was called Phước Tuy. Đông Bắc (literally "Northeast" from ) is the region to the north of the Red River Delta in Vietnam, bordering China. It is called ''Northeast'' to distinguish it from the Tây Bắc () or "Northwest", but it is actually in the north and northeast of Hanoi, wider than Việt Bắc () or "Northern Vietnam". Tây Bắc (literally "Northwest") is one of the regions of Vietnam, located in the mountainous northwestern part of the country. It consists of four provinces: Điện Biên, Lai Châu, Sơn La, and Hòa Bình. Lào Cai and Yên Bái are usually seen as part of the Northwest region. It has a population of about two and a half million. History A large area of the region was previously a part of the Sip Song Chau Tai, Tai Autonomous Region, which was dissolved in 1954.
